신경과학과 정신분석 마주쳐 읽기 I: 욕망, 충동, 신경전달물질/호르몬을 중심으로

국문 초록

정신분석을 창시한 프로이트(S. Freud)는 정신병리의 심리적 측면을 강조하였 지만 유기체적 생물학적 측면을 무시하지 않았다. 프로이트의 계승자인 라깡(J. Lacan)은 상징계의 무의식 구성을 강조하고 상징계를 넘어선 실재를 주장하였지만 쾌락원칙을 넘어서는 (죽음)충동을 ‘말하는 존재’로서의 주체에게만 가능하다고 생각했다. 그러나 신경과학자 베리지(K. Berridge)는 쾌락과 ‘쾌락 없는 갈망’의 뇌활동 부위가 다르다며, 프로이트와 라깡처럼, 이 둘을 구분하지만, 죽음충동과 닮은 갈망이 말하는 존재에게만 가능한 심리가 아니라 신경전달물질 도파민을 가진 다른 동물들에게도 발견되는 공통적인 현상임을 증명하였다. 상징계의 기능을 정신구 성의 본질로 본 라깡의 정신분석학은 유기체적 생물학적 접근에 문을 열어 놓았던 프로이트와 현대의 신경과학의 연구 성과를 통해 수정되어야 한다. 이런 점에서 최근에 싹트기 시작한 신경정신분석학의 가능성에 주목해야 한다. 거식증 같은 정신 현상에 대한 접근도 심리적 측면과 유기체적 측면을 모두 고려한 통합적 (신경정신 분석적) 관점에서 이루어지는 것이 바람직하다.

영문 초록

Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis, emphasized the psychological aspects of mental illnesses but did not ignore their organistic biological aspects. Freud s successor, J. Lacan, emphasized the constitution of the unconscious by the symbolic and regarded the real beyond the symbolic as crucial in the psyche but he persisted the (death) drive, which is in the real and beyond the pleasure principle, is possible only to the speaking subject. Neuroscientist K. Berridge, however, has recently proved by his experiments that liking(pleasure) and wanting (liking without pleasure) are activated at the different areas of the brain in human and animals. Berridge distinguishes between liking and wanting just like Freud and Lacan do about pleasure and death drive but, unlike Lacan, he shows that wanting, which is similar to death drive, is possible not only in humans but in animals like rats because both have dopamine neurotransmitter. Lacan’s psychoanalytic theory, which regards the symbolic as the constitutive fundamental of human psychology, should be corrected through Freud, who remained open to organistic biological approach to the psyche, and the recent researches of neuroscience. In this regard, attention should be paid to neuropsychoanalysis, which is now sprouting. It will be desirable to approach mental illnesses such as anorexia from integrative perspective which takes into account both their psychological and organistic aspects.
