국문 초록

본 연구는 영어문해교육에 참여한 여성노인의 생애이야기를 통한 학습경험을 분석하였다. 이에 영어문해교육의 참여한 여성노인의 학습의 근원적인 의미를 심층적으로 탐구하기 위해 여성노인의 총체적 삶의 맥락 안에서 접근하고자 생애사 연구방법을 채택하였다. 연구 참여자는 연구자의 영어문해 수업에 참여한 여성노인 여섯 명을 선정하여 교육현장에서의 심층면담과 참여관찰을 바탕으로 수집된 구술 자료를 분석하였다. 여성노인들의 자기 서사적 이야기를 과거ㆍ현재ㆍ미래 이야기로 분별하여 여성의 삶과 생애경험에서 나타나는 현상을 심층적으로 고찰하고 학습경험을 살펴보았다. 영어문해교육에 참여한 여성노인 학습자의 생애이야기를 통해 영어문해교육에 참여하기 전의 과거, 참여 진행 중인 현재와 다가올 미래의 연합적인 측면에서 발견한 구체적 학습의 의미를 심층적, 실증적으로 접근하였다. 또한 여성노인의 적극적 삶의 실천과 개척정신은 잠재된 여성노인의 학습의 힘을 보여준다. 이것은 주체적이고 자아통합적인 활동적 노화(active aging)의 의미를 갖는다. 여성노인의 삶의 맥락에서 시대적 영어문해교육의 요구와 여성노인의 일상적 학습에 내재된 고유의 의미 찾기를 하였다는데 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

This study analyzed the learning experience of the elderly women who participated in English literacy education through their life stories. So the researcher chose the life history research method, in order to approach in a broader and more comprehensive context of their life. The research participants were six elderlies who took English teaching classes conducted by the researcher, and the researcher had in-depth interviews with and observed them in classes. The gathered data were analyzed afterwards. These women’s life stories were divided into the past, present, and future, and the researcher closely examined the phenomenon appearing in their life and life learning and looked at these under the above divisions. The study looked into the meaning of learning inherent in the women participating in the English literacy education, through their life stories and the in-depth and evidential approach. Moreover, the active living and pioneer spirit shows the hidden power of learning in these women, which is independent and self-integrative active aging. It is meaningful in that it looked at the demands of English literacy education in this period of time in the context of their life and found the meaning rooted in their daily life.
