In order to search for the possibilities on the replacement with the developed forage rape instead of the imported varieties, several hybrid lines for forage rape were made and tested in the field condition. They hybrid lines were produced using cytoplasmic-genetic male sterility (Mokpo-MS) which developed in our country by the authors, and cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) introduced from the west Germany. Forage production of CMS used hybrid lines were more than that of the introduced varieties which is informed the possibilities on the replacement with the developed hybrid lines to the imported varieties. Forage yield of hybrid lines was decreased by the delayed sowing time, the highest yield obtained in August 15 sowing. Among the 16 hybrid lines used CGMS, Mokpo-MS/English Giant hybrid, produced highest forage yield showing 46% yield increase compared to the introduced forage rape variety Akela. The CMS used hybrid line, CMS₂/Velox, produced 88% more forege yield than that of the introduced forage rape variety Akela, on the other hand 47% increased that of the variety Velox. Hybrid lines developed using the CMS line were 65% more forage yield in average compared to those of the CGMS used hybrid lines. Therefore, it was assumed that the development of hybrid variety for forage rape would be more available than using the cytoplasmic-genetic male sterility.
