국문 초록

본 논문은 율곡 이이의 경서 이해를 통해 나타나는 경학적 관점과, 그러한 관점은 16세기의 역사적 시간 속에서 어떻게 현재화되어 그의 삶과 사유 속에 구체화되고 있는지를 고찰하고자 한 것이다. 이 연구를 통해서 필자는 이이의 경학관이 그의 무실 지향적 경세론적 입장과 연관되고 있음을 해명하고자 하였다. 유학은 현실 속에서 조화로운 인문세계를 건설하는 것이며, 인간은 끊임 없이 자신을 완성해 가는 과정적 존재로 파악한다. 이를 위하여 유학에서는 전통적으로 내면적 각성과 합리적인 질서 의식을 강조하여 왔다. 특히 우선적으로 수양을 통하여 도덕적 정당성을 확보해야 하고, 정치적인 면에서 힘에 의한 통치보다 인과 예에 의한 도덕적인 통치를 실현할 것을 강조 하였다. 이러한 점에서 성인은 유학의 이상이라고 할 수 있는 수기와 치인 이라고 하는 두 요소가 조화를 이룬 인간이다. 조화로운 인간의 삶은 바로 자연의 질서를 회복하는 것이며, 성인을 배우는 것이다. 성인을 배우는 것이 곧 경학이다. 경학은 ‘인간의 행위’를 포함하는 한에 있어서 사변적인 이론의 영역에 한정되지만은 않는다. 경학은 도덕과 윤리의 실현을 위한 구체적인 행위실천을 지시하는 예의 실천과 마음의 수양공부까지도 함축한 다. 따라서 본고에서는 이이의 경학이 그의 성학․경세론 등과 어떻게 연관되고 있는지를 고찰한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this thesis is to consider how Yulgok YiYi developed the study of confucian classics in the middle of 16th and how it can be understood in his life and thought. I study Yulgok`s view of the confucian classical study[經學] in relation to practicality[務實]-oriented his political thoughts.[經世論] The essence of confucianism is to build a harmonious human world and the human being is regarded as the being in the process of accomplishing the self successively. For this, the confucianism traditionally stresses the recognition of the human inside and the consciousness of rational order. Especially, it first of all stresses that one should confirm moral legitimacy by means of cultivation and so should realize moral government by means of perfect virtue and propriety rather than by means of power. In this respect, the sage is a man who integrates two elements as the ideal of confucianism cultivating one s person, and the act of governing others. Harmonious human life means recovering the proper order of nature and learning the sage. That is the study of confucian classics. As far as the confucian classical study includes human action , it is not limited to speculative theory. The confucian classical study implies propriety through practice referring to the concrete practice for realization of morals and ethics within the study of the mind.
