국문 초록

본 연구는 현재 국립현대미술관에서 운영하고 있는 시니어 자원봉사 프로그램에 대한 질적 사례 연구로서, 자원봉사 프로그램 기획자, 운영자, 참여자들의 심층 인터뷰를 통해 미술관 시니어 자원봉사활동이 크리에이티브 에이징의 관점에서 어떤 의의를 가지는지 확인하고 향후 미술관 시니어 자원봉사프로그램의 정책적 함의를 도출하는데 그 목적이 있다. 특별히 Fisher & Specht(2000)와 McHugh(2016)의 연구를 기반으로 시니어들이 예술행위 등의 창조적 활동을 함으로써 1) 개인적 성장, 2) 목적의식, 3) 타인과의 긍정적 상호작용을 통해 ‘크리에이티브 에이징’을 영위하게 된다고 보고, 이를 연구 분석틀로 삼아 미술관 시니어 자원봉사활동의 의의를 분석하였다. 연구결과, 위의 세 가지 요소는 서로 밀접하게 연관되어, 시니어들은 미술관 봉사활동을 하며 얻게 되는 이 요소들을 통해 삶의 즐거움과 강한 내적 동기를 얻게 되고, 사회적으로 단절되지 않는 흐름을 경험하여 보다 창조적이고 의미 있는 노년을 보낼 수 있음을 확인하였다. 본 연구는 이를 토대로 미술관이 크리에 이티브에이징의 주요 지점으로 기능하고, 각종 예술 서비스와 프로그램 장려 정책 개발과 연구, 기금 조성을 활성화시키기 위한 예술기관-시니어-지역사회-보건체계의 협의체 구성을 제언한다.

영문 초록

This qualitative case study examines the utility and effectiveness of the senior volunteer program at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea. The authors conducted in-depth interviews with program planners, operators, and senior volunteer participants to study the role that volunteer activities play in the lives of senior citizens. The analytical framework of this paper is the Creative Aging (CA) model the authors developed, based on Fisher and Specht (2000) and McHugh (2016). The model examines how seniors experience creative aging through various activities, which intrinsically motivate them with “flow” and allow them to gain pleasure as they get a sense of 1) personal growth, 2) purpose, and 3) positive interactions with others. Our findings indicate that these three factors interact closely and enable the senior volunteer program to play an important role in helping seniors realize more creative and meaningful aging. Our findings also have implications for policy about future senior volunteer programs at museums to call for the formation of a consultative body of arts institutions, senior groups, citizen community, and health centers to promote more diverse arts services and programs for creative aging.
