국문 초록

제 7차 교육과정은 학습자들이 자신의 적성과 소질에 맞는 교과목을 선택하여 능동적․자율적으로 학습할 수 있는 학습자중심의 교육과정을 실시하겠다는 것이다. 학습자중심 교육과정은 1995년 교육개혁이 진행되면서 현행교육과정에서 노출된 문제점을 해결하고 새로운 시대에 적응할 수 있는 대안으로 등장하였다. 그러나 이에 대한 많은 관심과 논의에도 불구하고 열린 교육과 마찬가지로 그 의미가 분명하지 않은 채, 아직도 우리의 교육현장은 실험실의 역할을 수행하고 있는 셈이다. 따라서 학습자중심 교육과정에 대한 활발한 논의와 검토, 그리고 그 효과에 대한 자료의 축적이 시급한 상태이다. 이 연구는 먼저 학습자중심 교육과정의 의미가 무엇인지를 규명하고, 둘째, 학습자중심 교육과정이 왜 필요한지를 검토한다. 셋째, 학습자중심 교육과정을 시행하기 위한 조건은 어떠한 것들이 있으며, 마지막을 학습자중심 교육과정의 가능성과 한계점을 총론적 관점에서 탐색해 보고자 한다. 학습자중심 교육과정은 세계화․정보화 시대의 요청이기도 하며, 우리의 교육이 안고 있었던 많은 문제점들을 해결할 수 있는 하나의 대안일 수 있다. 그러나 그것이 내포하고 있는 목적과 내용을 실현하기 위해서는 교육과정의 이론과 시행과정에 대한 절차 및 구성요소 등이 구체화되어야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

The 7th National Curriculum has the same goal as that of the learner-centered curriculum which is to foster students\ active participation enabling them to choose curricula and courses by themselves. Therefore, the learner-centered curriculum has been suggested as an alternative solution for coping with the current educational problems occurring since the adoption of educational reform in 1995. However, there is no clear definition of such a curriculum although it has already become a popular approach in the current educational context. When the learner-centered curriculum is applied at the classroom level without any evidence of the effectiveness of such an approach, the school becomes an experimental lab, and the students become guinea pigs. Therefore, it is necessity to gather information about the effectiveness of this approach and actively debate its appropriateness in the educational context of Korea. The purpose of this study is to describe the learner-centered curriculum and instructional materials it uses and to find a rational for accepting the learner-centered curriculum in order to bring about educational reform in Korea. Next, proper teaching and learning conditions necessary to apply the learner-centered curriculum and the limitation and potential range of this approach will be investigated in general. The learner-centered curriculum is an alternative solution that our current era seeks. However, in order to make adequate use of this approach we need first to investigate how well this approach works in practical situations.
