자기 주도 학습과 영어 어휘 학습 책략 관계에 대한 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 초등학생의 자기 주도 학습이 어휘 학습 책략과 어떠한 관계를 갖고 있는지를 알아보는 것을 목표로 하고 있다. 본 연구를 통하여 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학생들은 스스로 선택한 어휘 책략을 익히는 선택 활동에 대한 선호도가 높았고 선택 활동을 할 때 학생들의 자기 학습에 대한 주도성이 상승함을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 자기 주도 학습과 가장 밀접한 연관이 있는 상위 인지적 책략이 상위 집단에서만 사용되었다는 사실은 자기 주도 학습과 관련하여 어휘 학습 책략 사용이 상·하위 집단 간에 뚜렷한 차이가 있음을 보여주었다. 셋째, 학생들이 책략 수업 후에 스스로 단어 시험 실시하기 등의 상위 인지적 책략을 사용하는 모습을 보이며 자신의 어휘 학습 능력을 확인하는 것을 통해 자기 주도 학습으로의 발전된 모습을 확인할 수 있었다. 앞으로의 연구는 학생들이 선택하여 적용할 수 있는 다양한 학습 책략의 활용법을 개발하여 학생들에게 안내할 필요가 있으며 어휘 학습 책략과 다양한 학습법의 활용에 있어서는 영어와 타 교과와의 연계와 함께 자기 선택에 의한 어휘 학습을 장려할 수 있는 효율적인 방안을 제시할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the elementary school students self-directed learning and vocabulary learning strategies. The study obtained the following results: Firstly, students preferred the activity of their own choosing to the whole class activity; where a vocabulary learning strategy was selected and taught by the teacher. The results show that students initiative on self-learning increases when doing an activity of their own choosing. Secondly, the higher level students used meta-cognitive strategies which are closely related to self-directed learning, which was not present in the lower group. This is a good example that shows that in relation to self-directed learning, there is a significant difference in the use of a vocabulary learning strategies between higher and lower level groups. Thirdly, the use of meta-cognitive strategies such as a self-assessment after a whole class activity while using cognitive strategies repeated speaking and writing, shows the developmental aspect of self-directed learning. Further research needs to assist in developing ways to apply learning strategies so that students use them effectively. In the development of vocabulary learning methods, an efficient plan states that self-directed vocabulary learning can be promoted along with cross-curricular liaison of English with other subjects.
