외국인 유학생의 모문화와 한국문화 차이에 관한 비교 연구

국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 한국에 거주하고 있는 ‘아시아, 유럽, 북아메리카, 아프리카 4대륙의 외국인 유학생’을 중심으로 모문화와 한국문화를 비교하여 그 차이점을 밝히고, 이를 통해 외국인 유학생이 학업수행과 일상생활에서 겪는 어려움을 극복할 수 있도록 방향의 제시하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 한국 체류 기간 6개월 이상인 외국인 유학생 2학년부터 대학원 박사 과정까지 217명을 대상으로 설문 조사를 실시하였다. 설문조사지는 총 22문항의 Likert 척도로 구성하였다. 결과를 정리하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 아시아와 유럽 집단은 일상생활 문화와 언어문화 교육의 필요성이 높았지만, 북아메리카 집단은 한국인의 사고방식과 사회문화에 대한 교육의 필요성이 높았다. 또한 외국인 유학생의 한국어 실력 향상과 한국 문화 적응을 위해 문화 차이에 관한 비교 교육이 필요하다고 나타났다. 둘째, 학업문화, 일상생활문화, 공공시설과 제도의 문화는 몇 개의 항목에서 집단 간의 차이를 보여주었다. 셋째, 언어문화는 모든 항목에서 집단 간에 차이가 나타났는데, 특히, 아프리카 집단은 모든 항목에서 큰 문화 차이를 보여주었다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 외국인 유학생의 모문화와 한국문화 차이를 바탕으로 한 비교교육 프로그램이 개발될 수 있도록 시사점을 제시하였다. 이 연구의 결과는 향후 외국인 유학생 유치를 위한 대학의 노력이 어떠해야 하는지, 유학생에 대한 관리 및 행정이 어떠해야 하는지, 한국문화 교육은 어떠해야 되는지 등에 대해 중요한 기초자료를 제공할 것으로 기대한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to compare differences between Korean culture and the mother cultures of foreign students from Asia, Europe, North America and Africa to clarify the differences among cultures, improve academic performance, and overcome difficulties in everyday life. A survey was completed by 217 international students who have lived in Korea for a period greater than 6 months. The sample included students from sophomore to doctorate levels. An analysis of the survey results was conducted using an SPSS 22.0 statistics program. The survey consists of 22 questions using a 4-point Likert scale. Cronbach’s alpha was used as a measure of internal consistency. P-value(p<.05) is used to determine and analyize the significance of the results. Analysis of variance(ANOVA) and post-hoc Scheffe test were conducted to explicate and compare the differences. The following are the results of the analysis. First, Asian and European groups showed high necessity in culture of everyday life and language culture training. However, the North American group showed the importance of teaching Korean way of thinking and social culture. In addition, results showed comparative education on culture differences is necessary to improve foreign students’ Korean skills and ability to adapt to Korean society. Second, results revealed meaningful differences in several categories among groups. These categories included academic culture, everyday life culture and public facilities and organizational culture. Third, meaningful differences appeared in language culture among all the groups. In particular, African group showed significant meaningful cultural differences in all categories. The survey results provide a comparative analysis on differences between Korean and Foreign Students’ Mother Cultures. The implications of the results are significant in that they provide fundamental and essential data for university administration not only in the recruitment of foreign students, but in developing and providing foreign students with an appropriate Korean cultural education.
