독일 68운동의 ‘공공역사’ I:

국문 초록

본고의 주제는 ‘독일 68운동의 공공역사’에 대한 일종의 시간여행이다. 역사연구의 대상으로서도 여전히 치열한 논쟁거리인 68운동 그 자체가 이미 다양한 형태로 ‘공공역사’의 소재와 주제로 등장해온 것이 현실이다. 공공역사가 ‘과거에 대한 공공의 의식과 접근성의 확대’에 그 의의가 있다고한다면, 68운동의 결정적인 사건에 해당하는 ‘오네조르크의 죽음’에 바쳐진부조는 그에 걸맞은 위치와 형태로 자리 잡고 있다. 그런 점에서 첫 번째 시간여행의 대상이 베를린 독일 오페라 하우스 앞의 조형물 ‘시위자의 죽음’이라는 데는 의미가 없지 않다. 부조는 특히 내용 면에서 ‘6월 2일 사건’의 핵심 지점인 ‘경찰 폭력’을 제대로 짚어내고 있다. 또한 부조가 등장하는맥락 자체가 이 사건을 바라보는 논쟁의 지형을 드러낸다는 점에서 공공역사 역시 치열한 갈등과 대립의 시공 속에서 서술 및 재현되고 있음을 잘 보 여준다. 오네조르크 추모 부조는 ‘경찰 폭력에 대한 준엄한 경고’를 잘 내포한 공공역사의 형식으로, 독일 68운동의 결정적 전환점인 ‘6월 2일 사건’의의미를 제대로 형상화하고 있음이다. 더구나 지금 지구촌을 휩쓰는 테러와폭력의 물결 속에서 ‘폭력의 역사’에 대한 고찰 기회를 제공하며 ‘역사의 기억’이 배움으 전환될 가능성을 열어준다는 점도 이 부조의 현재적 의미 를 드높인다.

영문 초록

Subject of this paper is a kind of time travel to a ‘public history of the German movement ‘68’. It is a reality that the ‘68 movement itself has already emerged as the material and the subject of ‘public history’ in various forms as an object of historical study. If public history aims to widen public awareness and accessibility to the past, the relief dedicated to the death of Ohnesorg’ as the decisive events of ‘68 movement is nestled in a suitable position and form. In this regard, it ist not without significance that the target of the first time travel is the relief ‘the death of the protesters’ in front of the German opera house in Berlin. In particular, the relief with its content has put the point out of ‘police brutality’ as the key points of the ‘June 2 incident’ properly. Also the context in which it appeared itself reveals a terrain of debate watching this event. Public history in this regard is also shown that it is well described and reproduced in the construction of intense conflict and confrontation. The Memorial ist a type of public history that well contains ‘the strict warning about police violence’. It is shaped correctly the meaning of the ‘June 2 incident’ as a crucial turning point of ‘68 movement in Germany. Moreover, now it provides the opportunity to study for a ‘history of violence’ in the wave of terror and violence sweeping the globe, and opens up the possibility of historical memory be turned into learning. These points increase the current meaning of the relief.
