국문 초록

외국어를 배우고자 하는 목표를 가지고 있는 상황에서 동기란 학습자의 태도를 이야기한다. 동기는 두 가지 유형으로 분류되어 질 수 있다. : 통합적 동기와 도구적 동기. 통합적 동기란 목표 언어에 대한 학습자의 긍정적 태도에 의해서 규정되어지며 묵표 언어에 합류하고자하는 욕구를 이야기한다. 도구적 동기는 제2외국어 습득을 통한 사회적, 경제적 보상을 얻고자 하는 목표를 내포하고 있으며, 언어 습득을 위한 좀더 기능적 이유를 갖게 하는 것이라 할 수 있다. 두 가지 형태의 동기는 동기의 형태와 성공적인 외국어 습득간에 상관관계를 설정하기 위해 만들어진 연구의 범위 내에서 설명되어진다. 학생들에게 동기를 부여하기 위해서 사용되어지는 다양한 기술이나 기교가 설명되어진다.

영문 초록

Motivation is defined as the learner s orientation with regard to the goal of learning a foreign language.Motivation is divided into two basic types: integrative and instrumental. Integrative motivation is characterised by the learner s positive attitudes towards the target language group and the desire to integrate into the target language community. Instrumental motivation underlies the goal to gain some social or economic reward through L2 achievement, thus referring to a more functional reason for language learning. Both forms of motivation are examined in light of research which has been undertaken to establish the correction between the form of motivation and successful foreign language acquisition. A variety of techniques, strategies which teachers can employ in order to motivate their students are examined.
