The study of friendship network and psychological support on life satisfaction of the elderly residents

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 유료양로시설에 입주해있는 노인들 간의 친구지원망과 심리적 지지도를 살펴보고, 그것이 그들의 생활만족도에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 알아봄으로써, 입주노인들의 삶의 질 향상을 위한 사회복지적 함의를 제공하려는데 있다. 본 연구에서는 도심에서 떨어진 곳에 위치한 유료양로시설에 거주하는 135명의 남 녀 노인들을 대상으로 일대일 면접을 통한 설문지조사를 실시하였다. 본 연구의 질문지는 인구사회학적 특성을 묻는 문항과 친구와 하루에 지내는 시간, 일주일에 친구와 함께 취미활동에 참여하는 횟수, 금전적 도움을 주고받을 수 있는 친구의 유무, 간호해줄 수 있는 친구의 유무, 시설내 친구로부터 느끼는 심리적 지지도, 그리고 노인의 생활만족도를 묻는 문항으로 구성되었다. SPSS v12.0 통계프로그램을 사용하여, 빈도분석, 평균비교, 교차분석, 다중회귀분석 등의 분석이 이루어졌다. 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 인구사회학적 변인 중에서 성별의 차이가 시설내의 친구관계의 구조와 형태에서 차이점을 보였다. 여자노인들에 비해 남자노인들이 친구와 같이 보내는 시간, 친구와 함께 취미활동에 참여하는 횟수, 긴급 상황에서 금전적 도움을 주고받을 수 있는 친구의 유무, 간호해줄 수 있는 친구의 유무, 시설내 친구로부터 느끼는 심리적 지지도 등 모든 면에서 취약한 친구관계를 갖고 있었던 것으로 드러났다. 둘째, 유료양로시설 거주노인의 현재 생활만족도에 친구와 함께 하는 시간과 친구로부터의 심리적 지지도가 유의미한 영향을 미쳤으며, 그 중 심리적 지지도가 더 큰 영향력을 가지고 있었다. 이상과 같은 연구결과를 바탕으로 사회복지적 함의와 정책적 제언 및 시사점을 덧붙였다.

영문 초록

This study aims to examine the friendship network and psychological support among the residents in private residential home for the elderly, and to look at what effects it has upon life satisfaction of the elderly. The result of the examination is expected to be able to provide meaningful implications to improve life quality of the elderly residents. This research has conducted a one-to-one survey with 135 elderly residents in a private residential home for the elderly, located in suburban area. The findings of this study can be summarized as follows. First, within socio-demographic variables, gender difference entails the most visible disparity in friendship network and psychological support within the institution. Male elderly has maintained a friendship network which is weaker than that of female elderly in every aspect of the network, such as a number of hours spent with the friends, a number of participating activities, the degree of emotional support perceived from their friends, and a number of the friends who can provide financial assistance or provide nurse care. Second, the degree of life satisfaction of the elderly residents is positively related to a number of hours spent with the friends and the amount of emotional support perceived from the friends, with latter having more powerful influence on life satisfaction. Based on the findings of the study, the implications of social work practice, policy, and future research are discussed.
