국문 초록

심각한 육체적 및 정신적 피해를 가져오는 충격적인 사건과 사고를 트라마(trauma)라 정의하며 이러한 트라마 상황은 피해 당사자뿐만 아니라 상황 수습을 위해 개입한 응급 서비스 종사자들에게도 상당한 스트레스를 주게 된다. 이에 따라 미국에서는 스트레스 관리팀이라는 새로운 형태의 과제 집단이 개발되어 트라마 상황에서 심한 스트레스를 받아 도움이 필요한 응급 서비스 종사자들에게 심리 사회적 도움을 주고 있다. 이 논문은 이러한 스트레스 관리팀의 개발과 디브리핑(debriefing)이라는 1회 집단 개입 방법론을 소개하여 한국적 상황에 맞는 스트레스 관리팀의 형성과 개발을 도모하고자 하며 이를 위해 그 개발과 방법론의 기술과 아울러 저자들이 미국에서 활동한 한 지역 사회 스트레스 관리팀의 개발 및 활동 상황등을 턱맨과 포시스에 의한 집단 개발 과정 모델을 통해 사례로 제시, 설명하고 있다.

영문 초록

On a daily basis, the world community hears or reads of horrific traumatic events involving lass of life and severe injuries. It is, however, the community’s emergency service providers (i.e. law enforment, fire department, and ambulance service) who daily witness these events. Exposure to certain types of traumatic events place emergency service providers at-risk of experiencing acute stress reactions. These psychological, physiological, cognitive, and emotional symtoms can, it left without intervention, molt in the providers developing life-altering Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. With increased recognition of the risk for emergency service providers developing traumatic stress reactions, communities in the united States are approaching social workers for their help in developing a new type of task group, called a stress arrangement team. These teams consists of mental health volunteers and emergency service providers. From this large task group, ad hoc treatment-groups are drawn. These treatment groups provide psychological assistance to emergency service workers who have just experienced a devasting event. This psychological assistance consists of a traumatic event debriefing(TED). TED’s are designed to help alleviate the symptoms of acute traumatic stress and mitigate the development of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. This article delineates situations where debriefings are most needed. it introduces particular personality characteristics that can put emergency service providers at-risk. The 24-month development of one stress management team and its ad hoc debriefing teams are described, in which principles of group development are illustrated. The authors offer this type of team as but one potential form of mental health response to an identified at-risk population. Application to Korean situations, however, requires critical and scientific re-examination in the context of Korean culture, politics, history, and the social environment.
