영문 초록

An historical suvey of Korean verb forms since the fifteenth century may be summarized as follows: 1. From the morphological point of view all verb forms are divided into two: simple and compound forms. The compound form is further divided into compound verb proper and derivative verb. 2. The compound verb is made up of a verb and another non-verb word; the derivative verb is a verb derived from a non-verb word, with an appropriate suffix. 3. Derivative verbs include denominal verbs which may be directly converted into their corresponding noun forms. 4. Verbs may be made into words of other parts of speech by adding appropriate suffixes. 5. Certain verbs require certain specific objects. Such verbs are called “finite” or “limited” verbs. 6. In their early usage certain verbs are determined‘ and made meaningful only when compounded with other verbs. There are two ways of producing such compounds-by placing one verb either before or after the other. These particular verbs are desiginated “conjunctive verbs.” 7. Irregular verbs may be classified by conjugation pattern into two groups: the morphological irregular conjugation and the phonological irregular conjugation. “Defective verbs” belong to the former category.
