국문 초록

최근 들어 여성 음주 인구가 늘어나면서 국내 여성의 알코올 의존 유병율도 증가 추세에 있으나 이들에 대한 연구는 부족한 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구는 국내 여성 알코올 의존 입원 환자들의 임상적인 특성을 파악하고자 하였다. 본 연구의 결과, 여성 알코올 의존자가 우울증을 비롯하여 인격장애, 식이 장애 등의 공존 정신 질환 이환율이 높고 자살 시도 과거력이 많았다. 또한 좌절의 과거력 및 알코올 섭취와 관련된 심리사회적 문제를 더 많이 보고하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 여성 알코올 의존자의 경우 정신과적 공존질환 및 음주와 관련된 심리사회적 문제에 대한 보다 자세한 평가 및 적절한 개입이 필요하겠다.

영문 초록

Objectives：Nowadays, prevalence of women drinking is increasing but epidemiology and characteristics of alcohol use disorder in female drinker were rarely investigated. The purpose of this study is to examine the gender difference in clinical characteristics of alcohol dependence by reviewing the admitted patients’ medical records. Methods：The data from the patients who had admitted to an alcohol treatment unit in Severance Mental Health Hospital from 1998 to 2005 were investigated. Data of 135 female patients with a diagnosis of alcohol dependence were examined in comparison with those of age-matched male patients. Results：The onset of regular drinking and problem drinking was later in female patients with alcohol dependence than in male patients. Female patients drank less alcohol than male but have similar degree of alcohol-related physical impairments. Comorbidity of psychiatric illness, the number of suicidal attempt, and frustration history were more prevalent in female patients. Female alcoholic patients were likely to report association of their alcohol problems with familial/marital problems, while male patients were likely to report habitual drinking. Conclusion：These results suggest that it is necessary to give more attention to physical and psychiatric conditions of female patients with alcohol dependence and to evaluate psychosocial problems that make women drink.
