개혁신학자들이 개진해 온 바와 같이, 구원적 믿음(fides salvifica)은 지식 (notitia), 승인(assensus), 확신(fiducia)의 세 요소로 이루어진다. 그런데 뚤레 틴이 간파한 바와 같이, 믿음에는 이러한 본질적 요소들 외에 그것들로부터 파생되는 반사적 요소들이 있다. 칼빈은 이를 평정(securitas)이라는 말로 그 모든 것들을 함의한다. 칼빈에게 있어서‘, 지식’은 성경 기록에 있어 서의 인간 저자(autor humanus) 각각에 역사하는 성령의 영감(inspiratio)과, ‘승인’은 성경 독자(lector)가 성경을 하나님의 말씀으로 받아 그 객관적인 확실성(certitudo)을 지니게 되는 성령의 조명(illuminatio)과,‘ 확신’은 말씀 이 비췬 그 독자가 그것을 자기 속에 주관적으로 들이는 성령의 감화 (persuasio)와 관련된다. 칼빈은 이러한 요소들을 갖춘 믿음은 필히 성도의 심령의 평강과 담대함과 잠잠함을 낳고 궁극적으로 사랑에 이르게 된다는 점에 주목하면서‘평정’에 대해서 논한다. 이러한 이해에 있어서 칼빈은 믿음은 그리스도의 말씀을 듣게 되는 인식론적 차원과 그리하여 그의 의를 전가 받아 우리 자신뿐만 아니라 우리의 행위도 의롭다 하는 칭의와 성화 의 이중적 은총을 누리게 되는 구원론적 차원을 역동적으로 연결시킨다. 이러한 점에 있어서 말씀과 성령이 그리스도의 고리로 연결되는 기독론적 지평을 확보하게 된다. 여기에 칼빈이 개진한 언약신학의 고유한 특징이 있다. 본고는 이러한 점에 비추어 칼빈과 그를 잇는 개혁신학자들이 루터와 루터란 신학자들과 구별된다는 점을 일고하였다.

영문 초록

As Reformed theologians have deployed, the salvific faith(fides salvifica) is composed of three elements of knowledge(notitia), assent(assensus), and assurance(fiducia). Besides these, then, as Francis Turretin asserts, there are other reflexive elements, which are derived from them. Calvin uses a very significant notion called security(securitas) in order to express its aspects, phenomena, and impacts comprehensively. For Calvin, ‘knowledge’ is referred to the inspiratio of the Holy Spirit working within the heart of each of human author(autor humanus), ‘assent’ to the illuminatio of the Holy Spirit by which each reader(lector) is led to the objective certainty(certitudo) about the Bible, and ‘assurance’ to the persuasion of the Holy Spirit by which each believer makes each biblical verse his or her own. Calvin has a firm belief that the salvific faith equipped with these three elements gives necessarily birth to the inner peace, audacity, and serenity, and ultimately works as faith working with love(fides cum caricate). This points to the ‘security’ of faith. In this understanding, Calvin dynamically connects the epistemological dimension of faith, by which we hear the words of Christ, and its soteriological dimension, by which His righteousness is imputed to us and not only we ourselves but also our works are justified. This shows most characteristically what Calvin and his successors’ Reformed covenant theology is.
