영문 초록

Objectives ： This study attempted to compare findings of two studies (internet use, temperament & character profiles and mood) on internet addiction, which had been performed in 2005 and 2012. Methods ： Two cross-sectional studies surveyed using a self-report questionnaire on internet usage pat-tern, Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI) and Beck depression inventory (BDI). The earlier study included 213 male middle school students in 2005, and the latter study included 400 male middle school students in 2012. We compared the prevalence rates and patterns in temperament, character and depressive severity of internet addiction risk group between the two surveys separated by seven years. Results ： The prevalence of high-risk internet addiction was 77% in 2005 and 42.1% in 2012. The addiction risk group had higher scores for harm avoidance (HA) and BDI with lower scores for reward dependence (RD), self-directedness (SD), and cooperativeness (CO), compared to the non-addicted group in 2005. The addiction risk group showed higher novelty seeking (NS), HA, and BDI scores with lower RD, persistence (P), SD and CO scores, compared to the non-addicted group in 2012. Conclusion ： Our results suggested that prevalence of internet addiction has de-creased among adolescents in Korean, but the temperament and character of adolescents with internet addiction seems to have adopted patterns similar to those of substance-based addictions.
