비계형성자로서의 한국어 교사의 역할 연구

국문 초록

시대에 따라 요구되는 교사의 역할이 다르다. 의사 소통식 교수법에서 요구하는 교사의 역할은 언어 지식이 부족한 학습자가 목표언어에 대한 의사소통 능력을 키우는데 도움을 주는 역할이다. 본 연구는 교사의 이러한 조력자로서의 역할을 비고츠키(Vygotsky)의 근접발달영역(ZPD: Zone of proimal development)에서 교사의 역할과 연계해서 생각해 보았다. 교사의 비계형성(scaffolding)자로서의 역할을 안내자, 보조자, 조력자, 중재자, 촉진자, 참여자로 분류하여 수업 흐름별 교사의 역할 분포를 관찰하였다. 관찰 결과 교사의 역할이 안내자와 촉진자의 역할로 시작하여 수업 전개와 마무리 과정에서 다양한 비계형성자로서의 역할을 하였음을 알 수 있었다. 교사의 역할은 빈도순으로는 살펴보면 ‘촉진자-참여자-보조자-안내자-중재자-조력자’이다. 근거리보다 원거리 비계형성자로서의 역할을 더 많이 한 것을 알 수 있다.

영문 초록

The required role of the teacher in classroom interactions has been changing with the times. In Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) the teacher s primary role is to help language learners who lack advanced knowledge to improve their communication skills in the target language. This study examines the teacher s place in operating within Vygotsky s Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD). Utilizing scaffolding within the students zone of proximal development, the teacher is classified variously as a guide, assistant, helper, mediator, facilitator, and participant, with their role distribution determined by the requirements of each class. Through observation it was determined teachers initially tend to act as guides and facilitators but assume a wide variety of roles throughout the scaffolding process, through instructional development and conclusion activities. If we look into the frequency of teachers roles, we find the following order: Facilitator, participant, assistant, guide, mediator, helper. Teachers engaged in long-distance scaffolding were seen to perform a wider variety of roles than those engaged in short-distance scaffolding.
