국문 초록

본 연구는 생활시설에 거주하는 정신장애인들의 삶에 대한 만족에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 알아내고 이들 요인의 상대적 중요성을 밝히고자 하였다. 주요결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 사회적 지지는 정신장애인들의 삶에 대한 만족에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 그 중에서도 물질적 지지와 정보적 지지의 영향력이 큰 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 자아존중감 과 병식도 정신장애인들의 삶의 질에 중요한 역할을 하는 것으로 드러났다. 우울수준은 상대적으로 영향력이 적었다. 셋째, 시설관련 변인 중에서는 외출자유가 정신장애인들의 삶의 질에 특히 중요한 요인인 것으로 밝혀졌다. 넷째, 인구사회학적 변인들은 영향력이 극히 미미 하였다. 끝으로, 시설거주 정신장애인들은 친구관계와 관련한 영역에서 만족도가 가장 낮았으나, 이 영역의 만족도가 다른 영역의 만족도에 비해 전체만족도에 대한 설명력은 상대적으로 더 큰 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 결과를 시설거주 정신장애인들의 삶에 대한 만족 증진과 관련하여 논의하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this research was to find out the factors having significant influences on life satisfaction of mentally disabled people residing in institutions, and to examine relative importances of those factors. A questionnaire was administered to 299 participants from four institutions to measure the following variables: self-esteem, depression, insight, social support, demographic and institution-related factors. The results showed that different types of social support were found to affect varying domains of life, but overall, the participants who received more social support showed higher satisfaction with their lives. Among person-related factors, self-esteem and insight in particular proved to be important factors influencing life satisfaction of the participants. Several institution-related factors such as duration of admission and leave out frequency were shown to play significant roles in affecting life satisfaction of the participants. Demographic factors, however, had little influences. Finally, while the participants were the least satisfied in the domain of relationship, this domain proved to have substantial influences on overall quality of life of the participants. The implications of these findings were discussed.
