일본 산업사 연구의 동향과 전망

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은, 1970년대부터 최근까지 일본에서 이루어진 산업사 연구의 주요 내용을 문제의식과 방법론의 변화라는 측면에서 살펴보고 향후 방향을 전망하는 데 있다. 1970년대 초반에 산업사 연구는 두 가지 방향의 문제의식에서 시작되었다. 하나는 산업을 소재로 하여 일본자본주의론 혹은 경제학 이론의 검증을 시도하는 것이고 또 하나는 산업의 특성에 주목하여 산업 그 자체의 변화과정을 설명하는 것이었다. 방법론으로는 마르크스 경제학 이론의 재생산표식을 원용하였다. 1980년대부터 90년대 중반까지 산업사 연구는 양적으로 증가하고 질적으로도 실증수준이 매우 높아졌다. 문제의식면에서는 산업 그 자체의 전개과정을 실증하려는 연구가 많아지고 방법론은 산업기술사, 경영사, 기업가사, 비교제도분석 등으로 다양해졌다. 1990년대 중반 이후부터 2000년대까지는 연구대상이 좀 더 세분화되고, ‘일본형 경제 시스템’, ‘일본적 경영’ 요인을 산업사에서 발견하려는 시도가 많아졌다. 방법론에서는 비교제도분석이 큰 영향을 미쳤다. 향후 일본 산업사 연구에서는 일본경제의 장기불황을 반영하여 일본경제의 성장을 산업을 통해 검증하려는 문제의식 경향이 수정될 것으로 보인다. 대상산업도 제조업 일변도에서 서비스업과 에너지산업의 비중이 높아질 것이며, 방법론으로는 경영학 이론과 의 대화가 활발해질 것으로 전망된다.

영문 초록

This article is to survey the studies on Japanese industrial history from the 1970s until 2000s. The historical studies on Japanese industries appeared in the beginning of 1970s, had a two types of research questioning. One was to explain the structural characteristics of Japanese capitalism by the analysis of certain industry, the other was to describe concretely the process of certain industry as possible. But the methodology was common in that both researches used reproduction scheme of Marxist economics. From the 1980s until the mid of 1990s, the studies has increased in quantity and improved in quality. When viewed from the problem settings, there were many studies that described the establishment and development of certain industry. Moreover, a variety of methodologies such as business history, entrepreneurship history, comparative institutional analysis were used. Since the late 1990s, the studies became diversified, and were tended to try to find out Japanese economic system or Japanese style management in the process of development of certain industry. And comparative institution analysis was used in many studies. Studies which mainly explained the cause of growth in Japanese industry so far, are expected to change problem settings from now on. Industries to be studied will be varied from manufacturing sector to service sector such as distribution, health care, communication and energy.
