국문 초록

본 연구는 최근까지 연구가 미비했던 전문사용자 창업에 대한 창업동기와 성공요인을 설명하는 새로운 시각을 제공하고자 노력했다. 이 같은 노력을 위해 치과 의료기기 산업에서 성공한 전문사용자 창업의 일곱 사례를 대상으로 탐색연구를 실시했다. 그 결과 치과 의료기기 산업에서의 전문사용자 창업은 외생적 요인보다는 내생적 요인에 의해 더 많이 동기부여가 되었고, 내 생적 요인 중에서도 ‘즐거움(enjoyment)’이 가장 큰 창업동기 요인이었다. 즉, 문제를 해결하고 해결한 결과를 상업화하는 그 과정 자체가 즐겁기 때문에 창업을 했다는 것이다. 또한, 본 연구는 전문사용자 창업의 핵심 성공요인으로 다음 세 가지를 발견했다. 첫째, 상업화 이전과 이후모두에서 활발한 사용자 커뮤니티 활용 둘째, 치과의사, 대학, 연구소, 정부, 구매자 등 다양한참여자들과의 강력한 네트워킹 형성 셋째, 높은 교육 수준보다는 오랜 기간의 병원 운영과 발명의 경험이 중요하다는 것이다. 마지막으로 전문사용자 창업이 최종사용자 창업, 기술기반 창업, 일반창업과 어떻게 다른지 창업동기, 사용자 커뮤니티, 네트워킹, 관련 경험, 교육수준 관점에서 서로 비교하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to provide a new perspective to explain the motivation and success factors for professional-user entrepreneurs (PUEs), which has not been studied until recently. For achieving this purpose, we have studied seven cases of PUEs in the dental device industry. As a result, PUEs in dental device industry was more motivated by intrinsic factors than extrinsic factors, and ‘enjoyment’ was the most motivating factor of entrepreneurship among intrinsic factors. In other words, the process of solving problems and commercializing the results of solving them is a pleasure to PUEs, and that s why they started their own business. We also identified the three key success factors of PUEs: 1) utilizing active user community both before and after commercialization stage; 2) establishing strong networking with various participants such as dentists, universities, research institutes, government and buyers; 3) the importance of long-term practice and invention experience rather than longer education. Finally, we compared how PUEs differs from end-user entrepreneurs(EUEs), technology-based entrepreneurs, and general entrepreneurs regarding entrepreneurial motivation, user community, networking, relevant experience, and educational level.
