국문 초록

이 글은 1970년대 초 원주그룹 내 ‘생명’ 인식의 태동, 1970년대 후반 민주화운동과 협동운동에 대한 비판적 성찰과정을 거쳐 1980년대 초 원주보고서의 제출과정, 원주보고서의 내용과 특징, 한살림모임의 창립과 한살림선언의 내용, 원주보고서와 한살림선언 간의 비교분석 등을 중심으로 연구한 것이다. 1970년 봄 원주그룹은 ‘삥땅사건’을 계기로‘생명’ 인식이 태동하였다. 1970년대 반독재투쟁과 제반 협동운동에 대한 비판적 평가와 방향모색의 과정을 거쳐 1982년 초 생명의 세계관 확립과 협동적 생존의 확장이라는 ‘원주보고서’를 세상에 내놓았다. 원주보고서는 1970년대 환경과 생태계의 위기, 현대 산업문명에 대한 근본적인 성찰, 동학사상 등에 대한 탐색 등을 거쳐‘사람’에서 ‘자연’과 ‘사물’의 영역으로 그 인식범위가 확장되면서 나타났다. 주로 맑시즘적 패러다임과 근대적 조합주의에 기반한 반독재투쟁과 협동운동에서 탈근대적 생명운동이라고 하는 근본적인 전환으로 나아갔음을 의미하였다. 1980년대 원주그룹은 한가농의 ‘생명공동체운동’으로의 전환, 원주소비조합과 한살림농산의 창립을 통해 유기농업운동에 기반한 도농농 산물직거래운동을 전개하도록 추동하였다. 또한 원주그룹은 산업문명이 전 인류와 전 생명계를 위기로 몰아가는 시대적 상황을 진단하고 그 대안을 찾기 위해 치열한 내부논의를 진행한 결과‘한살림선언’을 제창하였다. 원주그룹은 한살림 선언에서 인간과 자연의 생명을 소외 분열시키고 억압 파괴시키는 산업문명 전반에 대항하여 생명을 총체적으로 살리는 사회운동인 생명운동을 전개해야 한다고 주창하였다. 또한 우리의 삶과 세계에 대한 우주적 생태적 공동체적 각성과 새로운 생활양식의 창조의 필요성을 역설하였다. 원주그룹의 생명운동은 근대 산업문명을 근원적으로 비판하면서 생명의 세계관과 협동적 생존의 확장에 기초한 생활공동체운동과 생명문화운동을 통해 세계를 근본적으로 바꾸어 나가고자 하는 의미를 지녔다.

영문 초록

In the early 1980s, the Wonju Group published the Wonju Report,’ a critical evaluation and redirection of the 1970s activist movements. Reflecting upon a variety of concepts regarding the 1970s including the environmental and ecological crises, modern industrial civilization, and Donghak philosophies; the document fundamentally expanded the boundaries of its rumination on humans, to nature and objects. The document implied a postmodernist movement from anti-dictatorship cooperative movements, to a life-centric movement that was based on Marxist paradigms and modern unionism. The Wonju Group became the “Life Community Movement” within the Korean Catholic Farmers Association. Additionally, through founding the Wonju Consumer Union and Hansalim Agricultural Cooperative, the Wonju Group promoted the direct trade of agricultural products based on organic farming. Furthermore, diagnosing the situation in which industrial civilization was driving the human race and the environment to crisis, the Wonju Group held hosted intense discussions, ultimately putting together the “Hansalim Manifesto.” Through the Hansalim Manifesto, the Wonju Group contended the necessity of a social movement that focused on protecting life while fighting against the effects of industrial civilization that alienates and divides, suppresses and destroys both human and natural life. It was emphasized that a universal, ecological, and communal awakening was needed in human life, a new lifestyle. Wonju Group s life movement criticizes modern industrial civilization, simultaneously striving to change the world through an activism of practicing a lifestyle founded on cooperative survival and the value of life.
