누가복음24:32에나타난 kardi,a-kai,w의 의미재고 - 역사적-문예적 근거들을 중심으로 -

국문 초록

본고의 목적은 누가복음 24:32에 나타난 두 제자의 발화“( 우리 속에서 마음이 뜨겁지 아니하더냐?”)의 의미를 살펴보는 데에 있다. 현대 주석가들 및 성경 번역가들은 헬라어 kardia, ‘( 마음’)와 kaiw, ‘( 불타다’)가 결합된 이 표현을 통상 긍정적인 의미(예컨대,‘ 감동적이지 아니하였는가?’) 로 이해하여 왔지만, 이들의 주장을 지지하는 역사적인 근거가 일절 없다는 것이 문제다. 이에 본고에서는, 이 표현과 관련한 모든 역사적인 가능성을 검토한다. 우선 본문비평 과정에서 발생하는 사본학적 근거를 가지고 kardia, -kaiw, 의 셈어 유래에 대하여 논구한다. 누가복음이 셈어적 영향을 많이 받은 책이라는 점, kardia, -kaiw, 가 유대인인 글로바의 입에서 나왔다는 점, 이표현이 속한 문장에 분사와 eimv i의, 조합(아람어적 문체)이 나타난다는 점, 이 발화 안에 셈어적 속격(명사를 바로 뒤에서 지배하는 속격)이 나타나는 점은 kardia, -kaiw, 가 셈어적 표현이라는 것을 강력히 지지한다. 따라서 kardi,a-kai,w의 용례를 조사함에 있어서, 헬라문헌에 나타난 kardia, -kaiw, 뿐 아니라 이에 대한 히브리어 등가어인 bl-r[B 의 용례를 살펴 볼 당위가 생긴다. 이를 위한 대상 본문은 시편 39:4와 예레미야20:9으로, 흥미롭게도, 여기에서 bl-r[B 는 모두‘양립한 상황에서 느끼는 심적 갈등’을 표현한다. kardia, -kaiw, 가 셈어에서 유래했을 가능성에 비추어 누가복음 24:32를 읽는다면, 예수가 성경을 풀어줄 때에 두 제자의 마음에‘심적 갈등’이 있었다는 의미가 도출 된다. 이는 전통적인 이해와는 정면으로 배치되지 만, 누가의 특징적인 수사학인‘생략의 수사’를 고려한다면 누가복음 문맥과도 조화를 이룰 수 있다. 본고는 (1) 본문비평 과정에서 발견할 수 있는 역사적 가능성과 (2) 누가복음의 문예적 특징을 근거로 kardia, -kaiw, 가 부정적인 표현임을 주장 하면서, 이를 긍정적으로 읽어내는 것은 비역사적이며 시대착오적인 해석 임을 드러낸다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to re-examine the meaning of the two disciples’question on the way to Emmaus in Luke 24:32,“ Were not our hearts burning within us?”Many recent commentaries and all the Korean biblical translations have read this expression (which is a combination of the Greek word kardia, with kai,w) to include positive connotation “( Were not our hearts moved?”). However, such interpretation of the verse has no historical basis at all, although it seems natural to understand Luke 24:32 in such positive light in the context of chapter 24. Thus, this research seeks to explore all the historically probable evidence for the exegesis of the two disciples’discourse. First of all, the textualcritical process for determining the most plausible reading reveals that kardia, -kaiw, has a possibility of being derived from a Semitic language. Luke’s Gospel as a whole is exposed to Semitic influences and the phrase kardi,a-kai,w was expressed by Cleopas, who was a Jew. Furthermore, Cleopas’speech in Luke 24:32 reflects Hebrew grammatical features: a participle used together with eivmi, verb (Aramaic style) and Semitic genitive. Accordingly, not only kardi,a-kai,w in ancient Greek literature but also bl-r[B the Hebrew equivalent of kardi,a-kai,w needs to be investigated(Psa 39:4, Jer 20:9). Interestingly, in both verses bl-r[B describes“ a feeling in a contrasting or conflicting situation.”Reading Luke 24:32 in light of the Semitic possibility of kardi,a-kai,w, it can mean that when Jesus explained the Scripture to the disciples, they had “a conflicting feeling”in their minds. Although this suggestion is contrary to the traditional reading, taking Luke’s characteristic rhetoric of omission into consideration, the new proposal could harmonize with its context as well. This examination, consequently, dissents from the traditional assent–a positive reading of kardi,a-kai,w–by (a) investigating the historical plausibility of the traditional reading through textual-critical studies and ancient Versions, (b) and by appealing to Luke’s own literary style to interpret Luke 24:32.
