영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the etiologic factors on the relapse after orthognathic surgery. This study was based on the 19 patients with mandibular prognathism who had undergone orthognathic surgery at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, College of Dentistry, Seoul National University. We have taken serial cephalometric radiography before and after surgery, and long term follow up after intermaxillary flxation release, to measure and analyze the skeletal change. The results obtained were as follows; 1. The amount of relapse was increased as the tilting of proximal segment was increased and the relations between mandibular plane angle and anterior superior rotational movement with relapse were unclear in this study. 2. The longer the duration of I.M.F. the smaller the amount of relapse. 3. The increased amount of mandibular movement made the relapse amount increase absolutely. 4. The skeletal stability due to preoperative, postoperative orthodontic treatment was evident, showed lower relapse amount (35%, 21%) than mean relapse amount (81.4%, 35%).
