여성의 외모관리행동과 자아존중감에 관한 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 한국 여성의 외모관리행동, 즉 체중조절에 대한 관리행동, 미적외모에 대한 관리행동은 어떠한가와 자아존중감과는 어떤 관계가 있는가를 알아보는 것이었다. 연구문제 1의 한국여성의 체중조절에 대한 관리행동은 어떠한가에 있어서 항상 비만에 대해 우려하고 있는가, 음식을 먹을 때 자주 칼로리를 신경 쓰게 되는가, 체중 조절을 위해 다이어트 식품을 구입할 의사가 있는가, 절식 혹은 단식 등으로 체중감소를 시도한 적이 있는가라는 질문을 나이, 교육정도, 직업, 키, 몸무게의 배경변인에 따라 분석하였다. 한국 여성의 미적 외모에 대한 관리행동은 어떠한가를 알아보는데 있어서 거울을 보며 외모를 살피는가, 보다 나은 외모를 위해 성형수술을 고려하겠는가, 피부 관리 센터를 다닌 경험이 있는가라는 질문을 통해 분석하였다. 연구문제 3인 여성의 전체적인 외모관리행동과 자아존중감 간에 어떤 상관관계가 존재하는가, 어 떤 차이가 있는가를 분석하였다. 결국 비만을 우려하고 칼로리에 신경을 쓰며, 체중조절을 위해 다이어트 식품을 구입할 의사가 있을 뿐만 아니라 체중감소를 시도하고 몸매를 가꾸기 위해 매일 운동을 한다거나 외모에 민감하여 거울을 보며 모습을 살피고, 옷차림이나 머리모양에 신경을 쓰며, 피부 관리 센터를 다니고 외모 때문에 성형수술을 고려하기도 하는 등 의식 적인 행동 등은 전체적으로 자아존중감과 깊은 관련이 있는 것으로 나타났다.

영문 초록

This research is significant in that it seeks to provide the basic materials for marketing activities of cosmetics industry that are geared toward skin care management, and academic research on beauty studies by defining the relationship between the appearance management behavior and self-esteem of Korean women. This study specifically addresses the following questions: 1. What are their behavioral pattern on weight control? 2. How do Korean women manage their physical appearance? 3. What is the relationship between the overall appearance management and self-esteem of korean women? The statistical outcomes in relation to the behavioral pattern for Korean women s weight control showed that, according to the five variables that include age, education, profession, height and weight, they were very concerned about obesity and that they were willing to buy dietary foods for weight control and it showed the high level of interest in weight control as they have previously attempted to cut back on food consumption or skip meals. And the statistical analysis on the behavioral pattern of appearance management showed that most of the Korean women were sensitive in response to their appearance. lastly, the analysis on relationship between Korean women s behavioral pattern of appearance management and their self-esteem indicated the differences were meaningful. based on this outcome, we can conclude that weight control and physical appearance have impact on the interaction between appearance management and self-esteem
