영문 초록

This study investigates problems in Korean speakers English psych verb learning by comparing the performances of learners in two tasks: a comprehension task and a production task. In the experiments, the subjects were required to judge the grammaticality of psych verbs with the given pictures in a limited time frame and to produce suitable correct expressions. The results show that not only the position of the experiencer in English but also those differences in the realization of grammatical functions, such as possibility of having multiple nominative constructions in Korean, are relevant to Korean EFL learners’ errors. Subjects show expected errors in production tests, indicating that there is a negative L1 transfer. Higher error rates in comprehension tests compared to their production counterparts challenge the traditional assumption in the previous SLA studies that comprehension precedes production. The fact that there are multiple ways to employ psych verbs for a given situation by alternating voice gives learners room to produce an appropriate output even when they have not established a complete knowledge of a given verb.
