생애사 연구를 통한 베트남 결혼이주여성 삶의 재구성

국문 초록

연구는 결혼이주여성의 삶을 생애사 연구방법론 중 이야기식 인터뷰(Narrative interview) 방법론을 사용하여 재구성하였다. 연구참여자는 한국 문화에 빠르게 적응한 성공사례 중 세평적 사례선택에 의해 최종 선발되었다. 평균 60분간 총 5회에 걸친 인터뷰는 연구자의 간섭 없이 화자 개인이 일상생활에서 경험한 생애 이야기를 자신의 선택과 결정에 의하여 즉흥적으로 이야기하는 것을 원칙으로 하였으며 수집된 자료를 ‘인생진행의 과정구조’방법론을 이용해 분석하였다. 그 결과 참여자의 삶을 ‘강한 모성의 힘으로 난관을 헤쳐나가는 주체적 삶과 능동적인 문화적응’으로 재구성하였다. 참여자는 개인적 차원에서 새로운 사회에 대한 인지적 능력과 문화 이해가 극단적으로 결여되었음에도 자신이 타고난 긍정적 인생관과 높은 자존감, 자신감으로 위기를 극복해 가려고 노력한 삶이라고 볼 수 있었으며, 사회적 차원에서 부모, 남편, 시부모를 비롯한 가족과 사회제도를 통해 맺게 된 이웃관계 안에서 매우 ‘운 좋은’ 삶을 영위해 왔음을 볼 수 있는데 참여자는 이러한 자원들을 유기적으로 사용하여 새로운 문화적응이라는 위기를 극복해 낸다. 결국 자신에게 가장 큰 영향을 준 어머니를 투영한 모성적 삶을 선택하고 이를 통해 능동적 문화적응의 결과를 이룰 수 있게 되었다. 본 연구의 결과를 통해 다음과 같은 몇 가지 실천적 함의를 얻을 수 있다. 첫째, 이주 초기 단계에 언어와 문화의 차이로 인한 갈등과 자녀출산 및 양육의 어려움이 가장 큰 것으로 보아 언어 및 문화에 대한 기초지식의 교육은 매우 중요하다. 둘째, 일방적인 동화를 위한 정책에서 벗어나 이주여성 개인의 임파워먼트를 위한 통합적 측면에서의 관심이 필요하다고 여겨진다. 셋째, 이주여성들이 취업을 통해 경제활동에 참여할 수 있는 여건과 환경조성, 이를 위한 인적자원 개발 및 직업교육과 훈련, 역량과 경쟁력 강화를 위한 훈련, 고용창출을 위한 추가적인 정책마련 등이 필요할 것이다.

영문 초록

This research on the lives of marriage migrant women collected data using narrative interview methodology among various life history research methodologies. The final participant were chosen by reputational case selection among successful cases where the adaptation to Korean culture was fast. A total of 5 interviews that lasted for 60 minutes on average were held under the principle that the participant spontaneously describes her everyday life experience according to her own choices and decisions, without being interrupted by the researcher, and the collected data was analyzed using the ‘process structure of life progression’ methodology. As a result, the life of the participant was reconstructed into ‘independent life and active cultural adaptation by overcoming barriers with the strong power of maternal instinct.’ On the personal level, despite the extreme lack of perceptive abilities of the new society and cultural understanding, the life of the participant was full of efforts to overcome crisis with naturally positive attitude toward life, and high level of self esteem and confidence. On the societal level, the participant was able to lead a very ‘lucky’ life through her family, including her parents, husband, and parents-in-law, and through her relationship with neighbors under social institutions, and the participant harmoniously uses these resources to overcome the crisis of adapting to a new culture. Eventually, she choses a maternal life, reflecting her mother, who influenced her the most, and was able to achieve the result of active cultural adaptation. This research has led to several practical implications. First, as the biggest challenges were conflicts and difficulties in child-rearing caused by differences in language and culture in the initial migration stage, education of basic knowledge in language and culture is critical. Second, instead of one-sided assimilation policies, there should be more interest in an integrated perspective for empowerment of migrant women as individuals. Third, it is important to create conditions and environment for migrant women to participate in economic activity by being employed, and to serve this purpose, there should be human resources development, job training, training for developing capabilities and competence, and additional policies for job creation.
