느헤미야서에 나타난 성벽 신학

국문 초록

일반적으로 성경에서 성벽이 중요하다고 생각하는 사람은 많지 않다. 본 논문은 느헤미야서에 나타난 성벽의 의미와 역할, 특징 등에 관한 연구이다. 먼저 느헤미야서 전체 구조 분석을 통하여 느헤미야에서는 처음부터 끝까지 성벽이 주요 화제임을 알 수 있다. 그리고 느헤미야에서 성벽의 중요성은 다음과 같이 드러난다. 첫째, 느헤미야서는 성벽에 딸린 성문과 문짝, 심지어 성문의 빗장까지 관심을 가진다. 성벽을 중요하게 여겼기에 성벽과 관련된 것 모두에게 특별한 의미를 부여하였기 때문이다. 둘째, 느헤미야서는 성벽 공사명단과 예루살렘 거주자 명단을 통해서도 성벽의 중요성을 말한다. 명단은 별 의미 없는 것으로 보일 수 있지만 느헤미야서가 예루살렘 성벽에 관심이 있음을 보여주는 우회적 방법이다. 셋째, 성벽봉헌식 때 성벽을 정결하게 한다. 성벽을 정결하게 한 경우는 성경 어디에서도 찾을 수 없다. 성벽을 구별하는 이유는 성벽을 성전에 준하는 위치에 두고 있기 때문이다. 넷째, 정결 의식을 치른 레위 사람이 성벽 문지기를 맡는다. 본 연구를 통하여 느헤미야서는 나름 체계적으로 성벽의 신학적 의미를 가지고 있음을 알 수 있다.

영문 초록

Generally, people think the wall of a city is important in the Bible is not much. This paper aims to investigate how the book of Nehemiah contributes to the meaning, the role and the nature of the wall of Jerusalem after the Babylonian captivity. First of all, throughout the structure analysis of that book we can recognize that the main topic in the book of Nehemiah is the city-wall which could be rebuilt by the initiative of the governor Nehemiah under the permission of the Persian king. The value of the wall in Nehemiah is revealed as follows. First, the book of Nehemiah has an interest over the gates and doors on the walls, and even bars of the gate. For the importance of the citywall, one would shed light on all of the things involved in it. Second, the book of Nehemiah provides the list of the people who participate in the work of the city-wall of Jerusalem and that of residents in it. The list may seem meaningless, but it is very probably a roundabout way of showing interest in the walls of Jerusalem. Third, in the ceremony of the dedication the city-wall is to be purified. It is the purification of the city-wall that one can not find anywhere in the Bible. The reason for the purification is thus that the city-wall are put in a position comparable to the temple. Fourth, the Levites is to take a ritual of purification when charging the service of the gatekeeper. As a conclusion of this study it may safely be affirmed that the book of Nehemaih systematically reveals the importance of the city-wall, and there is something called the theology of the wall.
