반복적 폭력 애니메이션 노출이 여대생들의 폭력에 대한 감정과 인지 변화에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

연구에서는 여대생들이 짧게 편집된 폭력적 애니메이션에 반복적으로 노출되었을 때, 폭력에 대한 반응에 어떤 변화가 있는지를 실험연구를 통해 살펴보았다. 이와 함께, 애니메이션 속 폭력 피해자의 성별이 피험자의 성별과 일치할 경우 폭력에 대한 반응에 차이가 나타나는 지도 분석했다. 이를 위해 일본애니메이션 14편에서 연구목적에 부합하는 장면을 골라 2분짜리 짧은 영상물로 편집했다. 여대생 60명이 피험자로 참가했다. 실험은 피험자들이 피해자가 여성인 집단과 남성인 집단에 30명씩 무작위로 할당돼 편집된 7편의 영상물을 보고 폭력 피해자 캐릭터에 대한 동정심, 폭력물에 대한 전반적인 감정, 폭력 애니메이션에 나타난 물리적 폭력과 언어적 폭력에 대한 인지에 응답하는 방식으로 진행됐다. 연구결과, 여대생들은 폭력에 대한 둔감화와는 반대로 4가지 종속변인 모두에서 폭력에 대해 더욱 민감해지고 폭력을 더욱 분명하게 인식하는 결과를 보였다. 이러 한 결과는 피험자와 캐릭터 성별의 일치여부와는 무관하게 나타났다. 이에 대한 함의가 함께 논의됐다.

영문 초록

This study investigated the effects of college female students exposure to a series of short edited violent animations on their reponses to violence. It also explored if there are differences in the responses to violence when the subject s gender is matched to the victim s gender in violent animations. This study edited 14 2-minute video clips adapted from popular Japanese animations including violent themes. 60 college female students participated in the experiment. Each of them was randomly assigned to either a condition where a female character was described as a victim or a condition where a male character was described as a victim. The subjects answered a questionnaire after watching first and last clips. Results show that female students have become more sensitive to 4 dependent measures including degree of sympathy and emotion, and awareness of physical and linguistic violence. This result is interesting in that the findings does not support the previous research focusing on desensitization phenomenon. No differences were found depending on the match or dismatch between gender of the subject and that of the victimized character in the animations. The implications of the study were also discussed.
