그리스도의 의의 전가에 따른 성도의 그리스도와의 연합: 『기독교 강요』에 개진된 칼빈의 이해의 고유성

국문 초록

성도의 그리스도와의 연합은 최근에 부쩍 인구에 회자되는 주제로서 학자 들은 대체로 그것이 구원서정에 있어서의 칭의와 성화의 이중적 은혜와 어떤 연관성을 지니고 있는지에 주안점을 두고 그 본질과 양상과 작용을 다루어왔 다. 이 경우 칭의의 법정성보다 성화의 점진성에 방점이 찍히는 경우가 많았던 바, 이는 본 주제의 핵심이 성도가 그리스도를 본받아 그와 하나가 되는 것에 있다고 보는 오해에서 비롯되었다. 본고는 성도의 그리스도와의 연합에 대한 칼빈의 입장을 다음 몇 가지 측면에서 고찰한다. 첫째, 성도의 그리스도 와의 연합은 보혜사 성령의 임재로 말미암는다. 둘째, 보혜사 성령의 임재로 성도는 성육신하신 중보자가 신인양성의 가운데 다 이루신 당하신 순종과 행하신 순종의 의를 전가받는다. 이는 칭의와 성화의 이중적 은총에 부합한다. 셋째, 이렇듯 성도에게 전가되는 의는 주님의 잉태로부터 죽음에 이르는 모든 의를 아우르는 바, 그가 자기 자신을 주신 의이다. 넷째, 보혜사 성령의 임재로 말미암은 이러한 의의 전가는 그리스도가 자기 자신을 우리에게 주심으로 우리 안에 사심 곧 성도가 그리스도와 하나됨을 뜻한다. 보혜사 성령이 그리스도의 영이라고 불리는 소이가 여기에 있다. 다섯째, 이렇듯 의의 전가를 통한 성도의 그리스도와의 연합을 말함에 있어서, 그 본질과 특성은 그 의 자체의 존재와 어떠함에 달려있다. 이로부터 본 교리의 기독론적 지평이 추구 된다.

영문 초록

As noted in this paper, since Calvin, in understanding the order of salvation(ordo salutis) the subject “believer’s mystic union with Christ(unio cum Christo)” has been regarded as a crucial issue whose theological significances and impacts are associated with the whole range of soteriological doctrines, especially with reference to forensic characteristics of justification, the imputation of Christ’s righteousness, the double grace of justification and sanctification, the essence and being of the church as the society(societas) of Christ the Head and His members, and the sacramental union between the signs exhibiting and the significances exhibited of baptism and the Lord’s supper. Calvin’s stance on this theme is deployed as follows. First, the “mystic” elements of the union with Christ are originated in the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, the Another Comforter. In this case, the Spirit of God is designated as the Spirit of Christ. Second, by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, Christ’s wholly fulfilled righteousness of both passive obedience(obedientia passiva) and active obedience(obedientia activa). This corresponds to the merit of justication and sanctification working through the whole process of salvation. Third, this righteousness imputed to the believers is the one Christ gave Himself for us. It is not confined to that of His belongings. Four, as a result, the imputation of Christ’s wholly fulfilled righteousness signifies His giving Himself, His indwelling within us with His Spirit. This is the reason why the Spirit of God is called the Sprit of Christ, the Spirit of Sonship, the life-giving Spirit, i.e., the Spirit of the new creation mortified with Christ and vivified with Christ. Fifth, this position of Calvin to look upon “unio” as “imputatio” is based on his own understanding of the being and working of Christ’s righteousness itself. This shows a clue to reach Christological dimensions and significances of this subject.
