요한복음 1장 16-17절에 근거한 ‘율법’ 과 ‘은혜와 진리’ 의 관계

국문 초록

신약 성경 안에서 ‘율법’과 ‘은혜’의 관계에 대한 연구는 오랫동안 학자들에 의해 논의 되어 온 주제들 중 하나이다. 특히 바울서신과 관련하여, ‘율법’ 과 ‘은혜’의 관계는 로마서와 갈라디아서를 이해하는데 중요한 열쇠를 제공 한다. 그러나 요한복음 안에서도 유대적 배경을 가지고 있는 사건들이 많이 등장한다. 본 논문은 ‘율법’과 예수가 가져오시는 ‘은혜’의 관계를 이해하기 위한 열쇠로서 프롤로그의 1장 16-17절을 연구하고자 한다. 이 구절은 옛 질서의 상징인 ‘율법’과 새 질서의 상징인 ‘은혜와 진리’와의 관계를 종합 병행 법의 문학적 기법을 통하여 잘 설명하고 있으며, 이것은 다시 ‘은혜 위에 은혜’의 의미를 해석하는 중요한 열쇠를 제공하고 있다. 1장 16-17절은 모세를 통하여 주어진 ‘율법’과 예수에 의해 온 ‘은혜와 진리’를 상호 적대적 관계나 동일성 안에서 다루지 않고, 오히려 후자를 통하여 전자가 완성되고 대체되는 의미로서 사용하고 있다. 즉 모세보다 우월하신 예수가 가져오는 ‘은혜와 진리’는 ‘율법’을 완성시키실 뿐 아니라, 옛 질서를 새 질서로 대체하는 역할을 한다. 그런 의미에서 ‘은혜 위에 은혜’는 첫 번째 은혜로 명명된 ‘율법’을 대체하는 ‘은혜와 진리’로 이해되어야 한다. 또한 이는 옛 질서인 ‘율법’을 파괴하면서 가져오는 새 질서의 ‘은혜’가 아니라, 옛 질서의 완성으로서의 새질서로 대체되는 ‘은혜와 진리’로 이해되어야 한다.

영문 초록

The relationship between ‘the law’ and ‘grace’ is one of the themes which have been studied for a long period among the New Testament scholars. Especially regarding Paul’s letters, the relationship between the ‘law’ and ‘grace’ provides important clue understanding Romans and Galatians. But in fourth gospel also, many stories appear to be in Jewish background. So this article studies John 1,16-17 of the prologue as a key to understand the relationship between ‘the law’ and ‘the grace’ Jesus brings. This passage shows the relationship between the symbol of the old order, ‘the law’, and the new order, ‘grace’ through complex-parallelism, and this provides an important key to understand the meaning of “grace upon grace”. 1,16-17 is not dealing ‘the law’ given through Moses and ‘grace and truth’ come through Jesus, in mutual hostility nor mutual similarity, but it shows the former is accomplished and substituted by the latter. In other words, ‘grace and truth’ brought by Jesus, the Greater one than Moses, accomplishes the Law and substitutes the old oder with a new order. Considering this point, “grace upon grace” should be understood that ‘grace and truth’ substituting the first grace, so-called “the law”. And this grace should be understood as the ‘grace’ which does not destroys the old order, ‘the law’, but the one that substitutes the old one as an accomplishment.
