‘역사·사회, 시간·공간없는 경제학’의 종말? :주류 경제학원론 패러다임의 비판적 재검토를 중심으로

국문 초록

2008년 이후 글로벌 대불황과 일자리 대란은 뿌리가 깊은 역사적인 현상이고, 또한 각국 혹은 세계적 범위의 경제위기는 정치·교육위기 등과 결합된 사회복합적 현상이다. 그런데 기존의 주류 경제학원론에는 사회와 역사가 있는가, 경제주체와 경제현상의 사회역사성을 인정하는가? 본 논문은 이런 질문을 제기하여, 한국과 미국의 대표적인 경제학 교과서 분석을 통해서 그렇지 않다는 것을 밝히고, 이런 몰사회역사성은 인접 학문이나 (정치)경제학의 역사, 비주류경제학의 성과에 비추어 이례적임을 밝힌다. 또한 그 원인은 주류경제학이 체계적으로 경제행위의 시간·공간을 무시하기 때문임을 밝혔다. 이런 방법론적 한계와 오류로 인해 주류 경제학의 전체 체계는 경제사와 지역·공간경제학 등에 의해 보완되는 자기모순적 상태임을 밝혔다. 그리고 이런 모순적 상황의 부정적 결과들, 그리고 이런 학문적 현실을 극복하기 위한 길을 모색해 보았다.

영문 초록

Since 2008, global recession is not only firmly established a fact in history but also multi-aspect social phenomenon where local or world-wide economic crisis is coupled with political and educational chaos. By the way, do the principles of economics textbooks widely used in mainstream economics contain the story about society and history? Do they acknowledge socio-historical aspects of economic reality such as economic agents and a variety of economic activities? This paper raises these questions and shows that the socio-historical aspects are not included in the dominant textbooks of the U.S. and South Korea. Also, it demonstrates that ‘economics without society and history’ paradigm is different in terms of achievements of non-mainstream economics, the history of the political science, and a major category of academic disciplines such as humanities, social science, and natural science. In addition, it depicts clearly that such unsociability and non-historicity are taken seriously because mainstream economics systematically ignores economic behavior across time and space, and that due to methodological limitations and potential errors, the general scheme of mainstream economics lies in self-contradictory circumstance which may be complemented by economic history and regional/spatial economics. Furthermore, alternatives are proposed in order to overcome the academic reality and to resolve the unwanted outcomes of the contradictory circumstance.
