김종삼 시 언어의 특성 연구 -전개과정을 중심으로-

국문 초록

이 논문은 한국 현대시사(詩史)에 기록될만한 명시를 많이 남긴 김종삼시인(1921~1983)의 시 특성을 연구한 것이다. 시인 김종삼이 민족 최대 수난의 시대에( 1950년대부터 1980년대 전반기까지 활동) 문학적으로 어떻게 대응하면서 시적 영역을 넓혀갔는지를 그의 대표작을 중심으로 특성을 분석하였다. 김종삼 시의 전개과정의 특성은 여백의 활용, 일상적 문맥의 파괴 등이 많다. 시행과 시행 사이의 의도적인 공백이나 여백은 시적 함축과 여운의 공간을 최대한으로 확보하면서, 시적 긴장감을 고양시키는 독특한 아름다움을 보여주고 있다. 거기에 문법적 어구를 생략하고 의도적으로 의미를 혼란시키고, 시 결구 부분에서 갑작스럽게 시 내용을 전환시킴으로써 시적분위기를 극적인 상태로 끌어올리고 있다. 이와 같이 김종삼은 세심한 시어의 선택, 시어의 의도적 배열과 이미지의 적절한 사용을 통해 여백의 미학을 찾았다. 또한 음악과 미술 등의 타 예술을 시 예술에 끌어들임으로써 예술 간의 융합을 꾀하고 종합예술로써의 시세계를 독특하게 구축해왔다. 더하여 그는 세계에 대한 비극적인 인식을 통하여 인간으로서 뛰어넘을 수 없는 한계를 인식하고, 순수하고 이상적인 세계를 끊임없이 동경하면서 만들어낸 환상창조와 뜨거운 인간애를 통한 극복의 시학을 추구하였다. 이상의 연구를 바탕으로 김종삼 시의 전개과정의 특성을 요약하면 아래와 같다. 첫째, 음악과 미술 등 타 예술을 시 예술에 끌어들여 예술 간의 융합을 통해 모든 예술을 품은 종합예술로서의 시 예술을 개척하였다. 둘째, 시인의 숙명인 비극적 세계인식을 극복하고자 창조한 환상세계와 더불어 뜨거운 인간애를 통한 극복의 방법을 찾아냄으로써 모든 현실적인 괴로움(가난, 질병, 전쟁 등)을 극복해낼 수 있는 극복의 시학을 실현해 내었다. 셋째, 시행과 시행 사이에 의도적인 공백이나 여백을 주어서 시적 함축과 여운의 공간을 최대한 확보하고, 시적 긴장감을 고양시키는 독특한 아름다움인 여백의 미학을 일구어냈다.

영문 초록

This paper studied the character of Kim Jong-Sam who was a poet from the 1950s to early 1980s, and has left splendid work in the history of modern Korean poetry. This paper analyzed how he broadened his poetic territory and coped with the time of ordeal in his major work. Utilizing blank space and destruction of context are techniques seen repeatedly in development process. The poet left blank and space in between lines to secure poetic implication and to have the most image room, so he demonstrated distinctive beauty to enhance the tension. By dropping grammatical phrase, confusing the meaning intentionally, and changing the contents in the end of the poem abruptly, he raised poetic ambience dramatically. He attempted integration of art from transforming other art into poetry through selecting poetic words scrupulously, sequencing them intentionally, and using appropriate images, and constructed his distinctively poetic world as a synthetic art. He cognized limits that men cannot surpass through tragic awareness of the world, and pursued aesthetics to overcome by creating illusion through uniting art, faith and poetry, admiring pure ideal world continually. Thereby he wished to reach the source of art and space of illusion. Based on the above research, the character of development process of Kim Jong-Sam's poetry may be summarized as follows. Firstly, he developed poetry as a synthetic art that embraces all arts while integrating other art forms such as music and art into poem. Secondly, he pursued aesthetics to overcome by creating illusion through other art and faith, to surmount the tragic global perception that he confronted. Thirdly, he secured poetic implication and had the most image room through leaving blank and space in between lines, so he built up distinctive beauty to enhance the tension.
