국문 초록

숭산(1927-2004)은 한국불교를 전 세계로 널리 포교한 거의 독보적인 선구자이다. 그가 한국 선불교의 보급을 위해 해외에 설립한 국제선원은 1966년 일본을 필두로 미국, 영국, 프랑스 등 32개국 120여개나 된다. 그럼에도 불구하고 지금까지 숭산의 불교사상 연구는 거의 없다. 본 연구는 당시의 사회 사상과 시대적 배경을 살펴봄으로써 숭산의 불교사상의 단초를 제공할 수 있는 기초 작업이라 할 수 있다. 숭산은 탄생 후 출가초기까지 일제강점기와 해방 후 극심한 좌우대립, 6·25전쟁 등 혼란과 격변의 시기를 몸소 겪어왔다. 일제치하에서의 지하 독립운동과 투옥, 6·25전쟁 중 군대 입대는 그의 불교사상 형성에 많은 영향을 주었을 것이다. 숭산은 생전 3번의 世界一花大會를 개최할 정도로 세께의 평화를 기원했다. 세계는 하나의 꽃이라는 이 사상은 부처님의 가르침인 연기사상이자 동체대비심의 발로인 것이다. 숭산은 민족의 비극적인 시대를 살아오면서 인간 존재의 깊은 성찰을 통해 자연스럽게 불교의 길로 접어들 수 밖에 없었을 것이다.

영문 초록

The great master Soongsan(1927-2004) had initiated Korean Buddhist missionary work at first all over the world. He had established International Meditation Center for the propagation of the Korean Zen Buddhism for the first time in Japan 1966. And United State, Great Britain, France and so on about 32 nations 120 International Meditation Center. Nevertheless there had not been the studies for his Buddhism and his thought until now. This study is the social thoughts and background of the period of his life time for the great master Soongsan’s buddhism and his thoughts. The great master Soongsan was experienced directly Japanese imperial regime in Korea, there were many conflicts right and left ideologies severely after independent from Japanese imperialism and 6·25 Korean civil war after his birth to early his buddhist priesthood. He has been influenced his buddhism and his thought deeply that he has been put in jail as his independent movement by Japanese imperial regime and during the 6·25 Korean civil war he has been joined the army. The great master Soongsan held One Flower World three time in his hole lifetime for the peace of the hole world. His thought of the world is one flower is the doctrine of dependent origination and the merciful mind for the same substance that is the doctrine of the Buddha. The great master Soongsan ought to be a buddhist because his hole life time was very severely tragedies of Korean people that made him self consideration.
