국문 초록

인간은 누구나 범죄로부터 안전한 삶을 희구한다. 안전하게 살고 싶은 욕구는 인간의 기본적인 욕구인 것이다. 그러나 안타깝게도 우리 사회는 범죄와 불가분의 관계에 놓여 있는 것이 현실이고 범죄의 두려움은 우리 삶에 커다란 영향을 미치는 문제라고 할 수 있다. 범죄의 두려움의 감소에 영향을 미치는 경찰활동의 효과성에 대한 지각은 치안정책을 실시하는데 중요한 요인이 될 수 있다. 따라서 이 연구에서는 경찰활동에 대한 지각 요인을 중심으로 영향력을 규명하고자 한다. 또한 이 연구는 범죄 두려움 관련 연구에 있어 요인의 다양한 규명 노력에 기여하고, 연구 결과를 토대로 경찰의 범죄예방 영역에서 활용 가능한 실증적인 자료를 제시하는데 주안점을 두었다. 종속변수로서 구체적 범죄 두려움의 평균값을 설정한 범죄 두려움에 대해 경찰활동에 대한 지각이 미치는 영향력을 검증하기 위해 다중회귀분석을 실시한 결과를 살펴보면, 경찰활동에 대한 지각은 범죄두려움에 유의미한 영향을 미치고 있으며, 요인별로 보면 지역경찰에 대한 신뢰는 부(-)적인 영향력을, 경찰의 가시성은 정(+)적인 영향력을 유의미하게 보이는 것으로 나타났다.

영문 초록

The fear of crime refers to the fear of being a victim of crime as opposed to the actual probability of being a victim of crime. Fear of crime can also be understood from a social constructionist perspective. The term and concept of fear of crime did not, for example, enter the public or political lexicon until the mid-1960s. That is not to say individuals did not fear crime victimization prior to this period, clearly they did at various points in history to varying degrees. The trust of community police is important. Community police officers are legally permitted to use force. The public expect them to do so. In dealing largely with disorderly elements of the society, some people working in law enforcement may gradually develop an attitude or sense of authority over society. And Its philosophy envisions a local and integrated approach to security based on maximum visibility focusing police activities on a limited area, which should optimize contact between the police and the population. It aims to restore public confidence in the police force and of improve the objective and subjective feeling of security in communities. In this research were investigated of the perception of policing and its affection on fear of crime. The perception of policing were composed of two subordinate variable, or the trust of community police and the visibility. The result of the regression analysis shows that fear of crime of men (R² = .21) could be a more useful variable.
