만문(滿文)『화엄경속입법계품(華嚴經續入法界品)』에 관한 연구

국문 초록

본 논문은 만문으로 적힌 『화엄경속입법계품』에 대해 고찰한 것이다. 만문대장경은 목판으로 현존하며, 모두 108함(函)으로 이루어져 있다. 『화엄경속입법계품』은 그중 제57함에 들어 있으며, 분량은 대략 10장 정도이고, 한 장의 목판에는 상․ 하 각각 31행씩 판각되어 있다. 제57함에는 화엄 계통의 소경(小經) 등이 들어 있는데, 『화엄경속입법계품』은 『보현소설경』과 『도세품경』사이에 위치하며, 경으로서의 어떤 형식이 없이 『보현소설경』에 바로 뒤이어서 만주어 경명과 본문 내용이 이어진다. 『화엄경속입법계품』의 경명은, 만주어에서 경(經)을 의미하는 ‘nomun’이 아니라 책의 편(篇)을 뜻하는 ‘fiyelen’으로 되어 있는데, 만문대장경의 편찬자는 『화엄경속입법계품』을 하나의 완결된 경이 아닌, 『화엄경』의 일부로 간주한 것으로 보인다. 『화엄경속입법계품』의 내용은 마야부인이 선재에게 천주광 동녀를 소개하는 것에서부터 시작하여 덕생 동자와 유덕 동녀의 환주(幻住) 법문으로 끝난다. 또 만문『 화엄경속입법계품』을 한역과 비교해 본 결과, 지바하라(地婆訶羅)가 한역한 『대방광불화엄경입법계품』의 내용과 거의 동일하였으며, 선지식의 이름도 일치하였다. 하지만『화엄경속입법계품』에는 한역자인 지바하라의 이름은 보이지 않는다. 『화엄경속입법계품』의 번역에 있어 몇 가지 유형이 나타나는데, 범어 고유명사는 주로 음역하였고, 중국에서 오랫동안 보편적으로 사용되어 온 한역 용어들은 그발음을 따라 만주어로 옮겼으며, 한역 용어의 뜻을 풀이하여 만주어로 번역하기도 하였다. 이러한 번역 용례들은 건륭제가 만주어의 쇠퇴를 막기 위해 실시한 만주어어휘 확장 정책과도 관련이 있었을 것으로 생각된다.

영문 초록

This paper is a review on the characteristics of the Manchu edition of the Huayan-jing　xu　rufajiepin. Emperor Qianlong, the sixth emperor of the Qing Dynasty, ordered the original text to be translated into Manchu in 1773. The printing woodblocks for the Manchu Buddhist Canon fill 108 crates, and the Huayan-jing　xu　rufajiepin is in crate number 57. Each woodblock is divided into an upper and lower section, and there are 31 vertical lines in each section. There are also several sutras related to the Avatamsaka Sutra(華嚴經) in this crate. The Huayan-jing　xu　rufajiepin is located between the Puxian　suoshuo-jing (普賢所說經) and the Dushipin-jing(度世品經). The Huayan-jing xu rufajiepin comes straight back from the Puxian　suoshuo-jing without any form of sutra. It is noteworthy that its Manchu name is not ‘nomun’ which means sutra, but ‘fiyelen’ which means a part of the Avatamsaka Sutra. In other words, the translator seems to have regarded it as a part of the Avatamsaka Sutra. The contents of Huayan-jing　xu　rufajiepin starts with Māyā (摩耶)’s guidance Sudhana to go to see Surendrābhā (天主光) and ends with the preaching of Śrīsaṃbhava dāraka (德生 童子) and Śrīmati dārikā (有德 童女). I also compared its content with the Chinese translation of the Gaṇḍavyūha Sutra and found them very similar. I also found the content of the Huayan-jing　xu　rufajiepin to be very similar to the Dafangguangfo Huayanjing ru fajie pin (大方廣佛華嚴經入法界品). The names of the 11 sages mentioned in both are almost identical. However, I could not find the name of the translater, Jivahara, in the Huayan-jing　xu　rufajiepin. It seems that this is closely related to the original text of Huayan-jing xu rufajiepin. I also compared the terms used in both translations. Most of the Sanskrit proper nouns were transliterated into Manchu. In some places they transliterated commonly used Chinese characters into Manchu, and in other places they actually translated the terms. In some instances they also coined new terms by combining Sanskrit and Manchu, such as the term ‘g‘angg‘a bira.’ They also translated the name ‘Sudhana’ into ‘Manibadara’ which means ‘precious sage.’ I believe that was done after studying the origin of the name ‘Sudhana’ in the Gaṇḍavyūha Sutra. That was a unique and practical means of translation. In conclusion, Emperor Qianlong had a policy of expanding usage of the Manchu language, and the Manchu version of the Huayan-jing　xu　rufajiepin was a direct result of this policy.
