영문 초록

This study analyzed the relative competitive advantage and grade of specialization of Korea, China and Japan between 2003 and 2012 in tourism. The study employs the dynamic shift-share analysis which decomposes the growth in international tourist arrivals to selected receiving regions(Korea, China and Japan) from different generating regions(Africa, Americas, Europe, East Asia/Pacific, South Asia and Others) of the world over a prescribed time period. Each receiving nation's performance will be compared to the overall performance of the area. As a result of this comparing decomposition, the relative competitive advantage and grade of specialization of each receiving nation in attracting international tourists can be determined. The results could be useful to policy makers as they assess the relative standing of their countries and drive meaningful practical benchmarking implications. The study has shown that the application of the dynamic shift-share method, using tourist arrival figures, can help decision makers to develop more sophisticated long-term strategies for tourism, policy.
