부가가치 모형의 명세화 방법에 따른 추정치간 합치도 및 추정량의 효율성 비교

국문 초록

이 연구는 다양한 부가가치 모형(Value Added Models)들이 책무성 평가모형으로서 타당한지를 평가하기 위한 것이다. 이를 위하여, 보편적으로 활용되는 네 가지 모형의 부가가치 추정치가 어느 정도 합치된 결과를 산출하는지 검토하였으며, 모형별 부가가치 추정량의 효율성을 비교하였다. 특히 부가가치 추정치에 영향을 미치는 요인이 자료구조의 다층적 속성의 반영여부에 의한 것인지, 모형에서 부가가치를 반영하는 명세화 방법 때문인지를 검증하였다. 구체적으로 이 연구에서는 모형이 가정하는 자료의 구조와 종속변수의 유형에 따라 네 가지 모형의 부가가치 추정량을 비교하였다: 단층 향상도 모형(Simple Progress Model; SPM), 다층 향상도 모형(Multilevel Progress Model; MPM), 단층 맥락모형(Simple Contextual Model; SCM), 다층 맥락 모형(Multilevel Contextual Model; MCM)이다. 모의실험을 위하여, 다층 맥락 모형을 기준모형으로 사용하여 자료를 생성하였으며, 네가지 모형에서 추정한 부가가치 추정치간의 합치도와 표준오차의 크기를 비교하였다. 연구 결과 다층모형이 단층모형과 비교하여 추정의 안정성이 높게 나타났으며 종속변수 유형에 따른 향상도 모형과 맥락 모형의 차이는 크지 않았다. 또한 모형 간 추정치의 유사성은 비교적 높게 나타났다.

영문 초록

This study attempts to investigate the validity of Value Added Models that are competing for evaluating school accountability. For this purpose it compares the value added estimates from four different models that are Simple Progress Model(SPM), Multilevel Progress Model(MPM), Simple Contexual Model(SCM), Multilevel Contextual Model(MCM). There are three research questions. First, are the standard errors of value added estimates different due to the different model assumptions on data structure? Second, are the standard errors of value added estimates different due to the different ways of progress specification that account for prior achievement? Third, given the four models, how much are the value added estimates and school rankings based on the estimates similar? Simulation data were generated by the MCM under six conditions of the number of schools and students within schools. Then the sampling distributions of the estimates in each of the models were examined. The results show that the assumptions on data structure are related to the efficiency of the value added estimators, and the multilevel models provide smaller standard errors. The progress specification methods were not related to the efficiency of the estimators, however.
