경찰활동에 대한 인식이 범죄예방활동에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 지역사회경찰에 대한 지역주민의 인식이 개인 수준의 범죄예방활동에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 경험적으로 검증하는데 있다. 특히, 이 연구의 주요한 이론적 기초는 사회해체이론의 기존 연구에서 등한시되었던 개인 수준의 비공식적 사회통제와 공식적 사회통제와의 관계를 살펴보는데 있다. 이를 위해 이 연구에서는 개인 수준의 비공식적 사회통제와 개인의 범죄예방활동을 동일개념으로 설정하고 지역주민의 경찰활동에 대한 인식을 공식적 사회통제의 측정도구로 사용하였다. 통계적 검증을 위해 서울시에 거주하는 성인 남녀 472명의 설문조사자료를 이용하여 다중회귀분석모형을 검증하였다. 통계분석 결과 지역주민들이 경찰과의 협력관계를 긍정적으로 인식할수록 개인 수준의 범죄예방활동에 보다 활발하게 참여하는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 경찰활동에 대한 인식은 물리적 도구를 통한 범죄예방활동보다는 행위를 통한 범죄피해예방에 보다 큰 영향력을 보여주었다. 한편, 범죄 두려움은 기존의 논의와 달리 개인 수준의 범죄예방활동에 정적 관계를 보였으나 다른 지역변인들(거주지역, 지역무질서, 지역애착, 이웃관계, 지역문제관심)은 일관성 있는 결과를 보여주지 못하였다.

영문 초록

The main purpose of this study is to empirically examine the impact of residents' perception of police in their neighborhoods on micro-level crime preventive activities. In particular, this study aims to scrutinize the relationship between formal social control and private informal social control which has been for a long time ignored in the literature of social disorganization theory. To accomplish the goal of this study, the author assumes that there exist the shared conceptual components between individuals' crime preventive activities in daily lives and private informal social control. In addition, formal social control is measured by the residents' perception of police. This study uses survey data which were collected from 472 citizens living in Seoul and examine multiple regression models. The findings reveal that police-citizen coproduction is linked to positively activate crime preventive activities. However, this relationship is more applicable for citizens' routine behaviors in order to prevent victimization rather than crime prevention throughout physical tools. Unlike previous discussion, fear of crime is positively linked to crime preventive activities. Community contextual variables disorder, community attachment, neighboring, and concern about community problems - fail to produce consistent linkages with crime preventive activities.
