This study explores the use of computer technologies, Web 2.0 and 3D virtual worlds, as ways of developing teaching skills for pre-service teachers. Before undertaking any teaching in real educational situations, pre-service teachers become able to construct their own sense of teaching, especially utilizing computer technology. In this study, students were guided on how to use computer technologies for teaching English throughout a semester and were required to submit a recorded video clip of their own teaching in a multi-user virtual environment such as Second Life and in a videoconferencing teaching technology. As a result of the study, pre-service teachers were observed using the technology in many ways, such as preparing input using movies and visual support, practicing linguistic input, having interactive dialogue, preparing tests, teaching unknown words, etc. This study suggests that conducting teaching practicum in a virtual world can be a useful way to reflect the teaching skills of preservice teachers, as compared with face-to-face teaching, revealing more interesting pedagogical aspects of language teaching. Further research in terms of finding the effectiveness and a pedagogical effect on online teaching practicum for pre-service teachers is something worth further exploration.
