영문 초록

Osteoporosis is a condition of reduced bone mass and impaired skeletal function. Senile osteoporosis occurs in both men and women age 70 or older and results from the slow phase of bone loss. It is manifested mainly by hip and vertebral fracture, although fractures of the proximal humerus, proximal tibia, and pelvis are also common. The vertebral fractures are often of the multiple wedge type, leading to dorsal kyphosis("dowager's hump"). Osteoporosis is charcterized by back pain, loss of height, spinal deformity(especially kyphosis). Considering the magnitude of the problem, prevention is the only cost effective approach. Dietary calcium, if low, should be increased. Increased physical activity should be encouraged, and bone toxins, such as cigarette and heavy alchol conumption should be eliminated.
