공공아파트에서의 연령 및 장애에 따른 주민혼합과 노인의 적응

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 저소득층 노인들을 위한 공공아파트에서 발견되는 다양한 연령집단 및 장애집단과 노인들과의 혼합거주가 노인들의 적응에 어떤 영향을 미치고 있는지 살펴보려는 것이다. 이 목적을 위해 본 연구는 미국 Minnesota주 Minneapolis시에 위치한 공공아파트를 대상으로 하였다. 이 지역 아파트군에 존재하는 세 가지 형태의 거주유형 1) 거의 노인들만 거주, 2) 노인들과 장애를 가진 비노인들과의 혼합 거주, 3) 노인들, 장애를 가진 비노인들, 장애를 갖지 않은 비노인들과의 혼합거주에 따라, 노인들의 적응이 친구관계, 사회활동참여도, 거주환경만족도와 혼합거주에 대한 태도의 측면에서 유의미한 차이를 보이는지, 차이가 있다면 그 차이가 실제로 다양한 주민 집단의 혼합거주에 의한 것인지 알아보았다. 또한 노인주민들이 궁극적으로 어떤 거주형태를 선호하는지, 그것이 거주유형별로 어떻게 다른 지도 살펴보았다. 연구결과는 개인적 및 환경적 특성변수에 대한 통제 후에는 거주유형 자체가 노인들의 친구관계, 사회 활동참여도, 거주환경 만족도에 의미 있는 영향을 미치고 있지 못한 반면 혼합거주에 대한 태도는 특성변수들에 대한 통제 전과 후 모두 거주유형에 따라 차이가 있는 것으로 밝히고 있다. 노인들이 대부분인 아파트에 사는 노인들보다 비노인들이 많이 거주하고 있는 아파트의 노인들이 혼합거주에 대해 더 긍정적인 태도를 갖고 있었다. 또한 약 과반수의 노인들이 노인들만의 분리거주를 원하는 반면, 노인들의 비율이 상대적으로 낮은 아파트에 사는 노인들보다 노인들로 거의 구성되어 있는 아파트의 노인들이 노인들만의 분리거주를 더 원하고 있는 것으로 나타났다.

영문 초록

The purpose of the study is to investigate the impact of the integration of tenants of different ages and disabilities on the adaptation of older tenants. Three types of tenant integration currently existing in Minneapolis public housing were studied : 1) segregation of older tenants, 2) integration of older tenants with younger disabled tenants, and 3) integration of older tenants with younger disabled tenants and younger tenants without disabilities. The study focused friendship, social activity participation, housing satisfaction, and attitudes toward tenant integration as aspects of the adaptation of older tenants to their housing. In addition, tenant integration types that older tenants prefer most were studied. The study found that tenant integration itself did not have a significant impact on local friendship, activity participation, and housing satisfaction, whereas personal characteristics were more significant in predicting those variables. However, attitudes toward tenant integration was positively affected by the integration with younger tenants with or without disabilities. Another study finding was that although almost half of older tenants preferred segregation from younger tenants, more older tenants currently living with younger tenants with or without disabilities preferred tenant integration of different ages and disabilities compared to older tenants living with almost all older people.
