노년기 전기와 후기의 차이에 관한 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 노인들을 연령대에 따라 노년기 전기와 노년기 후기로 구분해서 인구사회학적 특징, 신체적 건강, 우울, 삶의 만족, 삶의 사건의 심각한 정도, 사회적 지지의 차이를 비교하고 삶의 사건이 건강, 우울, 삶의 만족에 미치는 부정적 영향을 비교하였으며 나아가서 이러한 영향에 대한 사회적 지지의 완화효과를 비교하였다. 지역사회에 거주하는 60세 이상의 노인 201명을 표본으로 chi검증, t검증, 회귀분석이 이루어졌다. 연구결과는 세 가지로 요약될 수 있다. 첫째, 노년기 후기의 노인들은 노년기 전기의 노인들에 비해 교육수준, 월수입이나 용돈의 수준은 낮았고 배우자가 없는 비율, 기능손상과 만성질환의 정도, 심각한 삶의 사건을 경험하는 정도, 도구적 지지의 활용수준은 더 높았다. 그러나 우울과 삶의 만족에 대해서는 두 집단 간에 별 차이가 없었다. 둘째, 노년기 전기보다 후기에 삶의 사건의 심각한 정도가 신체적 건강, 우울, 삶의 만족에 대해서 미치는 부정적 영향이 두드러진다. 셋째, 노년기 전기보다 후기에서 도구적 지지가 그 출처에 관계없이 삶의 사건이 우울과 삶의 만족에 미치는 부정적 영향을 완화하는 효과가 더 크다. 이러한 연구결과에 입각하여 노인문제에 대한 관심을 노년기 후기에 초점을 맞출 것, 노인에 대한 사회복지 대책에서 도구적지지의 활성화를 중요한 과제로 할 것 등의 실천적 함의가 제시되었다.

영문 초록

This study explored three issues in regard to the differences between the younger old and the older old. The first issue was about the differences in the level of their physical health, depression, life satisfaction, stressful life events and social support. The second issue dealt with the different effects of stressful life events on their health, depression, life satisfaction. The third issue was if there were any differences in the buffering effects of social support on the relationship between stressful life events and their health, depression, life satisfaction. The survey data collected from 201 community residing older persons was used for analyses. Findings suggested that the level of ADL impairment, chronic diseases, stressful life events, instrumental support was higher for the older old than for the younger old. However, there were no significant differences in the level of depression and the life satisfaction between two groups. It was also found that the effects of stressful life events on their physical health, depression, life satisfaction were stronger for the older old than for the younger old. Finally, the buffering effects of the instrumental support on the relationship between stressful life events and depression, life satisfaction was stronger for the older old than for the younger old. According to the results, implication for social welfare was discussed.
