노인부부가구ㆍ노인독신가구의 사회적 지지가 삶의 질에 미치는 요인에 관한 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 부산광역시에 거주하는 65세 이상의 부부가구 노인 122명과 독신가구 노인 111명을 대상으로 노인부부가구와 노인독신가구의 사회적 지지와 삶의 질을 살펴보고, 사회적 지지가 삶의 질에 미치는 영향력을 알아본 실증적 연구이다. 사회적 지지는 자녀, 친척, 친구ㆍ이웃으로부터 받는 정서적 지지와 도구적 지지에 대해 알아보았고, 삶의 질은 노인이 주관적으로 느끼는 신체적, 심리적, 경제적, 사회적 측면에서 살펴보았다. 그리고 사회인구학적 특성변인과 단독가구 관련 특성변인을 통제한 후 사회적 지지가 삶이 질에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 상대적 중요성을 탐색하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 노인부부가구보다 노인독신가구인 경우 여성노인과 고령인 비율이 많았고, 교육을 포함한 전반적인 생활수준이 낮았다. 자녀와 동거하지 않는 이유도 노인부부가구는 노인의 자발적인 의사인 비율이 높았으나 노인독신가구는 자녀와의 관계에서 오는 이유가 컸다. 둘째, 노인부부가구가 노인독신가구보다 다양한 지지체계로부터 사회적 지지를 많이 받고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 노인이 주관적으로 느끼는 삶의 질도 노인독신가구보다 노인부부가구가 높았다. 넷째, 사회적 지지가 삶의 질에 중요한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났는데 노인부부가구는 자녀의 정서적 지지가, 노인독신가구의 경우 친척의 정서적 지지, 자녀의 도구적 지지가 중요 요인임을 예측할 수 있었다.

영문 초록

This study is to examine on the quality of life and social support among married couples and single households who are more than 65 years old. The final sample consisted of 122 cases of married couples and 111 cases of single households which have resided in Busan Metropolitan City. In this study, two major aspects of social support was considered: emotional support and instrumental support. The quality of life was examined by the following four areas: physical, psychological, economical, and social aspects. The major findings of this study were as follows: First, the single households showed lower level of the standard of living than the elderly married couples. They showed higher mean age, and lower level of educational attainment than the married couples. The female elderly were more likely to be found among the single households than the married couples. Second, the elderly married couples were more likely to receive social support from the diverse sources of support systems than the elderly single households. Third, the elderly married couples were also higher in the quality of life than the single households. They tend to be more satisfied with the subjectively-perceived quality of life than the single households. Finally, the relative strength of factors affecting on the quality of life were different the elderly married couples from the single elderly. In the elderly married couples, emotional support from adult children, gender, and the residential conditions were the most significant factors in improving the quality of life. However, in the single elderly, emotional support from the relatives, instrumental support for adult children, educational attainment, and the residential conditions were important determinants of the quality of life.
