영문 초록

The purposes of this study were to verify how social pressure factors influence social comparison and appearance management attitudes focusing on gender differences in high school students. To these ends, a questionnaire was given to 325 female adolescents and 254 male adolescents, with an age range of 15 to 18. Data were analyzed by structure equation modeling through Amos 18.0 and SPSS 18.0. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: First, there were significant differences in media pressure and social comparison between female adolescents and male adolescents. Second, an adolescent's social comparison was related positively to appearance management attitudes in female adolescents and male adolescents. Third, social comparison has a significant mediating effect on the relationship between social comparison and appearance management attitudes in female adolescents and male adolescents
