온라인 성인학습자의 자기주도학습 수준과 사회적 실재감이 학습결과에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

본 연구는 온라인 성인학습자의 자기주도학습 수준과 사회적 실재감의 관계를 확인하고 이들이 학습만족도와 학업성취도에 대하여 맺고 있는 관계를 탐색하는데 목적이 있다. 이는 통상적으로 학습자의 개별 학습에 대한 촉진요소로 여겨졌던 자기주도학습을 사회적 맥락에서 고찰한다는 점에서 의미롭다. 이에 국내 한 사이버대학에 재학중인 73명을 연구대상자로 선정하여 자기주도학습 준비도, 사회적 실재감, 학습만족도, 학업성취도 등을 측정하여 분석에 활용하였다. 사전에 선정된 연구목적에 따라 분석결과를 정리하면 첫째, 연구대상자의 자기주도학습과 사회적 실재감은 이들의 연령과 토론참여도에 따라 수준이 다른 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 자기주도학습과 사회적 실재감 사이에는 통계적으로 유의미한 상관관계가 없었으나, 41세 연령집단에서는 그 관계가 존재하였다. 셋째, 자기주도학습 수준이 높을 경우 학습만족도와 학업성취도가 모두 높았으나 사회적 실재감이 높은 연구대상자들은 학습만족도만 높은 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 자기주도학습의 사회적 속성이 학습자 특성에 따라 다르게 작용한다는 점을 밝혔다는 점, 온라인 성인학습자를 대상으로 한 수업에서 자기주도학습을 촉진시키기 위하여 교수자가 취할 수 있는 실천적 제안점을 제시하였다는 점에서 연구의 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

This study explored the relationships between self-directed learning(SDL) and social presence, and how these two variables affect learning outcomes such as satisfaction and achievements. SDL was put in the social context in this study, although it has been observed mainly in the individual level. Seventy-three online adult learners were involved in this study and the data for subjects' demographic information and four main variables such as self-directed learning readiness, social presence, learning satisfaction, learning achievements were collected. The main findings of this study were as follows. First, the SDL and social presence levels were dependent on the subjects' ages and discussion participation. Second, there were statistically signigicant relationships between SDL and social presence in the older age group(above 41 years) only, although they did not show any significance in the whole group. Third, the subjects with high levels of SDL showed high levels of learning satisfaction and achievement, while the ones with high levels of social presence scored high levels of learning satisfaction only. This study was noteworthy in that it revealed that SDL played significant roles in adult learners' social learning processes depending upon their characteristics such age and that there were a couple of practical tips that instructors could follow to enhance learners' SDL.
