국문 초록

1998년 금융위기 이후 지난 15년 간 우리나라의 노동시장은 고용형태의 구성과 관련하여 심대한 변화를 겪었다. 특히, 전체고용에서 비정규직이 차지하는 비중은 계속적으로 증가하여 왔다. 본 연구논문에서는 이러한 비정규직 고용형태의 증가가 임금에 미치는 영향을 다음과 같이 분석하였다. 첫째, 근래에 발전되어 온 비조건부 분위수 회귀모형을 이용하여 비정규직 고용의 증가가 전체 임금분포에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 이는 그간 분포의 평균에 미치는 영향에 관심을 가져온 연구들의 한계를 뛰어넘는 의미를 가진다. 둘째, 임금분포의 상이한 백분위수에서의 정규직과 비정규직의 임금격차를 (모형에 의해 설명되는) 구성효과와 (설명되지 않는) 임금구조효과로 분해하였다. 첫 번째 분석과 관련해서 비정규직 노동자의 증가는 백분위수 별로 상이한 음의 효과를 가지며 저소득 노동자층에 강한 효과를 가지는 것으로 나타난다. 두 번째 분석과 관련해서는 우리나라의 노동시장에서 유리천장 현상(glass ceiling phenomenon)이 관찰되는데 이는 모형에 의해 설명되지 않는 임금구조효과에 의해 발생하는 것으로 추정된다.

영문 초록

In the last 15 years after the dismal financial crisis, Korea has experienced fundamental change in employment composition structure. In particular, the share of temporary employment has continually increased. In this paper, we analyze the effects of temporary contract on wages. First, we investigate the effects of temporary contract on the whole wage distribution using recent unconditional quantile regression. Second, we attempt to decompose wage differentials between permanent and temporary workers at different percentiles into composition effect and wage structure effects. Regarding the first investigation, we found that an increase in the share of temporary workers has a heterogeneous and the negative effects on wages and the effects are stronger for the low wage earners. For the second examination, it is found that there is a glass ceiling phenomenon in the Korean labor market and this is mainly driven by increasing wage structure effects across quantiles.
