부부관계 만족도의 종단적 상호영향

국문 초록

장기적인 결혼관계를 유지해 온 노년기 부부는 오랜 기간에 걸쳐 서로에게 지속적인 영향을 미친다. 그러나 노년기 부부를 다룬 선행연구들은 배우자가 있는 노인 한 개인을 대상으로만 수집된 자료를 가지고 부부관계를 분석해왔기 때문에 부부간 상호영향을 직접적으로 다루지 못하였다는 한계를 가지고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 부부 모두를 대상으로 수집된 자료를 기반으로 남편이 아내에게, 아내가 남편에게 미치는 부부관계 만족도의 상호영향을 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 ‘한국고령화연구패널’의 1차년도(2006년)부터 3차년도(2010년)까지 혼인상태를 유지한 60세 이상의 부부 1,091쌍, 총 2,182명의 자료를 활용하였고 분석방법으로는 구조방정식에 기반을 둔 ‘자기회귀 교차지연 모형’을 적용하였다. 분석결과 노년기 부부들에게 있어 남편과 아내의 부부관계 만족도는 종단적으로 상호영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 배우자로부터 받는 영향은 아내보다 남편이 더 큰 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 노년기 부부관계는 배우자와 주고받는 역동에 따라 형성된다는 점, 그리고 노년기 부부관계를 연구하는데 있어 부부 모두를 고려해야 할 필요성을 보여준다.

영문 초록

Elderly couples that have maintained long-term relationships cast constant influence upon each other for a long time. However, previous studies that dealt with marital relationships in late life show some limitations in that they analyzed the relationships using the information gathered from only one of the couples. Such approach is insufficient to study the direct interaction between elderly couples. Therefore, based on three waves of longitudinal data gathered from both of the husband and wife, this study aimed to examine the long-term interaction in the level of marital satisfaction between husbands and wives over a six year time period. The study sample were 1801 elderly couples (N=3602) aged 60 years and over, who participated in all three waves of KLoSA (2006, 2008, 2010). The cross-legged model with Mplus 6.12 was used for the analysis. The results show that elderly husbands and wives share a significant degree of longitudinal interaction in terms of influencing each other's marital satisfaction. More specifically, husbands' and wives' level of marital satisfaction reciprocally predicted each other's marital satisfaction two years later. Therefore, in studying the late-life marital relationship, it may be necessary to consider both spouses because the marital relationship becomes significantly intwined during late life.
