국문 초록

본 연구에서는 4년제 대학생의 재학 중 근로유형이 어떤 요인에 의해 결정되는지를 분석하고 이어서 근로유형에 따라 재학 중 근로가 노동시장 초기성과에 미친 영향을 분석한다. 재학 중 근로유무만을 고려하였던 기존연구의 한계를 극복하여 추정한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 교육비 조달에 대한 가계의 예산 제약 유무에 따라 재학 중 근로유형이 결정됨을 확인했다. 즉, 저소득층 자녀는 생계형 근로를, 고소득층 자녀는 직업탐색형 근로를 많이 하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 이는 졸업 후 20개월이 되는 시점에서의 노동시장 초기성과에서도 반영되고 있었다. 재학 중 근로경험이 없는 사람과 비교할 때, 직업탐색형 근로를 경험한 사람은 첫 일자리를 유지할 확률이 높았지만 생계형 또는 용돈벌이형 근로를 경험한 사람에게는 유의한 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 이와 같은 결과는 재학 중 직업탐색형 근로가 보다 활성화될 수 있는 정책적 뒷받침이 필요함을 시사한다.

영문 초록

This study analyzes the determinants of working experiences. Especially the primarily reasons for working are considered. Also, the effect of college students’ working experiences by the primarily reasons for working on the earlier labor market outcomes are examined. This study is better than the previous studies in that it considers the major reasons for working. The main results of this study are like these. First, we found the types of working while in college are mainly determined by the budget constraints of household. In other words, students from low-income family are working for living itself, whereas students from high-income family are working for preparing on future job. Second, these types of working are closely associated with the earlier labor market outcomes. Compared to those who had no experience while in college, those for working for preparing for future career have higher probability in sustaining in the first job obtained after graduation. On the other hand, those for working for living itself have no difference in labor market outcomes. Therefore, these results imply that working experiences for career-specific skills while in college should be supported by university and local government.
