해외파병군인의 외상후 스트레스장애(PTSD)에 관한 연구

국문 초록

베트남 참전용사에 대한 재검토 연구(NVVRS: The National Vietnam Veterans Readjustment Study)에는 해외파병군인들의 정신적 상태에 대한 세부적인 정보를 담고 있다. 또한 그 자료에는 의학적 평가들을 정신분석적으로 시험한 결과뿐만 아니라 정신건강진단표도 수록되어 있다. 그 결과를 살펴보면 해외파병 군인들의 정신건강은 외상후 스트레스장애(Post Traumatic Stress Disorder: PTSD) 증상과 같이 매우 열악한 상태임을 알 수 있다. 외상후 스트레스장애(PTSD)는 심각한 사건을 경험하고 난 뒤 공포감을 느끼고 사건 후에도 이를 계속해서 재경험하거나 회피하는 고통을 느끼는 정신질환 중에 하나이다. 우리나라 해외파병군인들은 환경의 특수성으로 인하여 스트레스 및 충격적인 사건을 직·간접적으로 경험하게 되는데, 이를 겪고 있는 해외파병군인의 정신건강에 대한 연구는 아직 미흡하다. 이 연구는 다양한 정신건강에 관련된 부분 중, 해외파병군인들의 외상후 스트레스장애(PTSD)와 관련된 정신적 특성들을 설명하고자 한다. 따라서 해외파병군인의 업무 특성상 필연적으로 경험하는 사건들로 인한 해외파병군인의 PTSD에 대해 알아보고, 우리나라의 PTSD 관리체제의 현황 및 문제점에 대해 분석한 후 선진국에서 시행하고 있는 프로그램들에 대한 분석을 통해 우리나라 해외파병군인의 PTSD에 대해 올바른 인식 및 접근 방향성을 제시하는 데에 도움을 주는 방안들을 모색한다.

영문 초록

The National Vietnam Veterans Readjustment Study (NVVRS) records showed detailed information of the psychosocial status of overseas-dispatched soldiers. The data also contained responses to several diagnostic mental health questionnaires as well as the results of psychological testing an clinical evaluations. At the result, the level of overseas-dispatched soldiers’ mental health was the inferior conditions such as the post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms. PTSD is an anxiety disorder associated with serious traumatic events and characterized by such symptoms as survivor guilt, reliving the trauma in dreams, numbness and lack of involvement with reality, or recurrent thoughts and images. The study was to examine psychological characteristics associated with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms among overseas-dispatched soldiers. Overseas-Dispatched Soldiers is widely recognized as one of the most dangerous and stressful occupations. Overseas-Dispatched Soldiers works are frequently exposed to potentially traumatic situations, such as explosions, terror etc. It can make Overseas-Dispatched Soldiers at risk for developing post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD). The purposes of this study were to understand the PTSD in Overseas-Dispatched Soldiers on the basis of the status of Overseas-Dispatched Soldiers in cases. And the correct perception and approach that helps to provide direction for ways to explore.
