국문 초록

본 연구는 검정 교과서 체제 하에서 사회 교과서 집필이 이루어지는 과정 분석을 통해 사회과 교육과정이 교과서 집필에 어떤 영향을 주고 있으며 향후 어떤 역할을 해야 하는지를 고찰하기 위한 목적에서 수행되었다. 이를 위해 연구자는 한 출판사의 사회 교과서 집필 회의 과정을 관찰하였고 저자 및 출판사 편집부 직원들과 면담을 수행하였다. 연구 결과, 사회과 교육과정은 집필자나 직원들에게 매우 추상적인 문서로 인식되고 있었고 효과적인 집필 지침을 제공해 주기 어렵다는 점을 알 수 있었다. 대신 저자들은 교육과정 성취기준을 풀이해 놓은 교육과정 해설서에 더욱 많이 의존하는 경향이 있었다. 또한, 교육과정의 성취기준이 단원 간은 물론 단원 내에서도 일부 중복되는 부분이 발견되어 저자들 간의 내용 조정을 어렵게 하는 부분도 있었다. 이러한 현실을 고려할 때, 앞으로의 사회과 교육과정 문서는 교과서 집필 경험이 있는 저자들의 참여를 확대하고 논리성과 명확성을 제고하여 교과서 집필의 실질적인 토대로서의 역할을 수행하는 방향으로 개발될 필요가 있다. 또한, 검정 교과서 체제에 적합하도록 출판사와 저자의 자율과 재량을 높이는 방향으로 기술되는 노력도 필요하다.

영문 초록

This study aims to grasp the influence and role of the current social studies curriculum by analyzing the process of writing social studies textbooks. For this purpose, meetings for writing a social studies textbook of a publishing company were observed and the writers and editors were interviewed. The observations and interviews show that the current social studies curriculum is considered as an abstract document by writers and editors, and does not provide effective guidelines for writing textbooks. The writers have a tendency to turn to the commentary of curriculum instead of the curriculum itself. Moreover, there are overlaps and conflicts of achievement standards of curriculum among some units, which makes it difficult for writers to arbitrate differences of opinions on the contents of a textbook. To solve these problems, it is required that more writers of social studies textbooks should join the process of developing social studies curriculum. Moreover, social studies curriculum has to be more logical and clear to fulfill its unique function as a substantial guideline for writing textbooks. Furthermore, the social studies curriculum should be improved to provide writers and publishing companies with more opportunities to use their discretion.
